I had an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound.  The results came back today which indicated the following per the nurse:  "negative ultrasound with a complex cyst on my right ovary".  You need to follow up with your ob / gyn.

What does this mean?  How concerned should I be?  I am terrified!

Most cysts are benign.  You didn't mention the size of the cyst.  The fact that it is complex means it has both solid and cystic components.  Although it is unlikely, it is possible it is cancer if it is complex.  I encourage you to ask to see a gynecologic oncologist for follow-up.  If you do end up having a malignancy, a gynecologic oncologist has more training and experience to skillfully remove the tumor and stage you properly in one surgery.  The odds are that you will not have cancer.  I was diagnosed with Stage 1a OVCA last July.  I am only 37 and everyone also reassured me that it probably wouldn't be malignant.  However, someone on this board told me about the gynecologist oncologist and I am so thankful that I did have one do my surgery.  Best wishes to you.
