Post-Op Pain

by milashka, Feb 14, 2006 12:00AM
I had my ovarian cancer surgery - total clean-out, vertical incision - on November 23. At first recovery went well, but now, 11 weeks post-op, I still cannot sit for longer than 15 minutes (then the incision starts hurting and swells up), have incision pain bad enough to be given more Percocets, and I also have an electrical nerve pain at the lower end of the incision which is so bad I cannot wear any pants with metal button without getting zapped. My surgeon says everything healed well and all this is just part of the healing process.

Anyone else out there with a similar recovery? How long will I be disabled (since I have a desk job, I cannot return to work until I can sit for longer than 15 minutes)?

Hi Milashka.

Please read what I wrote in reply to Ronie in her "SECOND OPIONION" thread up above.  I think so much worry and fear would be abated if the surgeons would clarify what they mean by 4-6 weeks recovery time.  That's just the beginning, getting through the initial accute post-op phase.

11 weeks is not long.  I'm 5 months out and my incision still gives me heck when I sit too long.  I'm blessed with not having to go back to work for the first time in my life.  I really feel for you.

Take care, Barb

Barb, I could not find the thread you mentioned...so you still have pain as well when sitting too long...I am kinda lucky too in that I don't have to go back to work but my leave expires in 2 months. By then this will need to be resolved or at least be bearable.
