Post Op drainage

Post Op drainage

I have already posted this but have more ques.  I had wound separation 2 yrs ago after having a partial hyst.  My incision ramained open (2 inches of it) for 12 weeks w/several set backs(infections) along the way.  The surgeon felt it was a fluke but it seems to be happening again after removal of my ovaries a week and a half ago.  He examined it last Friday and left some staples in and steri stripped the other areas.  It seems to be healing better this time but the center is opening again.  I have lots of serous drainage and it oozes almost constantly.
What causes this, I have been on complete bed rest. I am not diabetic and have not had healing issues other than 2 yrs ago.
Anyone else have a problem with this?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Hi,
Are you taking any OTHER medication? Like for high bloodpressure, any for cholesterol, or aspirin etc??? You should ask for total blood check up? Some people are just slow healers... My husband like that. Sue

No other meds - just antibiotics and pain meds from same Dr.
I have had a blood workup pre-op, twice from 2 seperate Dr's.
It's just frustrating.......
Next time - super glue and duck tape!!!

My wound completely opened after radical hysterectomy.  My surgeon/ocologist told me they sometimes see this when the person is overweight.  That's me and most of my weight is unfortunately in my tummy.

My son was sent home wide open after a bowel resection, had to keep the wound irrigated daily with saline solution, drew it together and applied a dressing with neosporine then  tape and then a tight binder.  He healed from the inside out,  took a long time. Never got any infections as I used as sterile technique as possible.  Always wash your hands good before treating the wound. He was very much over weight, they used silk stitches inside to hold the inner tissue in place, when the clamps were removed in the hospital, it came open.  He was on life support for 11 days and so they had to remove the clamps then before the skin grew over them.  His scar is about 2 inches wide in spots.  Hope you heal up sooner this time.  Good Luck

That may be part of the problem.........  I told my Dr that I would give him an extra $100 if he did a little suck-n-tuck while he was in there. HA!

Hi,
I had a drainage as well after I had my right ovary removed, and my goodness at the oozing I didn't think it would ever end. Although at the time we thought the opening was due to me being pregnant at the time of surgery and recovery. They also told me is was because I have had now 3 surgeries through the same incision. Let me know how you are. I know it's a painful experience, as I was packed daily for weeks.

Thanks everyone........I go back tomorrow and the oozing has stopped but I can still see that some areas are not closing all the way.  It is so much better than 2 yrs ago but I am still concerned.  I have had 3 incisions there as well and I am sure that is part of the problem.
