Post dermoid cyst removal

Hi, I am 23 years old and I am scheduled to have a 5 cm dermoid removed in two weeks. I am also overweight and have hypothyroidsim. My question is if it will be easier for me to lose weight after the surgery b/c I've been told that cyst mess with your hormones which messes with your weight. Not sure if im having the laprascopy or the open surgery, docs are going to do which ever has the best chances of saving my ovary.
