Post laparotomy Intervention recovery

Post laparotomy Intervention recovery

Hi! I'm 32yrs old and have been diagnosed with myoma inside the uterus. The myoma is about 7cm big. The doctors say it will have to be removed through Laparotomy and the operation is fixed the 13th of June.

Since I need to fly back to my country 10days after the operation, I would like to know what is your experience concerning the post recovery time: How many days after the operation you need to stay in the hospital? And after how long one can travel?

For me it's also a matter of costs : more days at the hospital, higher costs. When could one say: You are fit to leave the hospital?

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.
All the best, Eva

I spent 3 days in the hospital.  I'm 6 weeks post op and still cannot travel because of wound separation.  10 days post op seems too soon to travel by plane.  What does your Dr. think?  Be careful because of blood clot risk.
Good luck!

Thank you for your advice "justscore".

Unfortunately, I can't afford staying any longer than 10 days. Luckily the flight is only 2hrs.

My Dr did not want to tell me anything about it before the operation is over.

But, were you able to walk after 3 days?

thanx,

eva

It is very possible to get out of the hospital in 3 days.  My first operation I was out in 21/2 days after a laparotomy and the second I had a roommate who had a hysterectomy who was out in 3.  You can be out of bed the day of or the day after surgery.  The sooner you get up and move the better off you are.  Good luck with your surgery.

Hi Eva,
I had my laparotomy on may 4th,just over three weeks ago.
I stayed in hospital for 5 days and I am still in alot of pain, gassy and constipated. I have a family crisis and I wanted to fly home which is 6 hours away but my sister who works for the airlines-says that the cabin pressure may cause problems for anyone who has had open abdominal surgery and airlines are usually reluctant to allow you to travel without special permission from your surgeon.
Everyone heals differently, pls check with your surgeon,do not lift heavy luggage and try and get a wheelchair instead of overdoing it.Good Luck.

If the flight is only 2 hours, is there a way to travel by car?  Some Drs. don't want you driving yourself for 2 weeks, especially if you are on any pain meds.

Good luck!

Thank you all for sharing these experiences with me and for your advice.

I will be very carefull with the regime I should follow after the operation and I will not carry anything these 10days or even in the months to come and of course I will have someone taking me at the airport. It's just the flight that I can't avoid.

I'm aware that every person has a different experience, but it's good to see that there are also encouraging ones.

Thank you once again and wish you all the best.

Eva
