This site was extremely helpful to me before surgery, thank you!! I am 35 and 16 weeks pregnant with my first. I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst at 9 weeks that was 11cm. I had recently moved to Barcelona, Spain and was dealing with all of this with my Spanish husband who was translating the doctors explanations for me. We decided to "watch" the cyst for a month, and when it was ultrasounded again, it had doubled in size and was called "suspicious". Due to my pregnancy and the misery that I was suffering for the month that the cyst was growing, the surgery had to be done immediately. It was explained to me (in English!!!) that the right ovary would be removed, and if it was malignant, then my left ovary would also immediately be removed. There is apparently a chemo that can be done during pregnancy that I would start, and then upon delivery of the baby my uterus, tubes, and lymph nodes would be extracted. Anyway, I am now 7 days post op, I had a laparotomy, my right ovary removed, and the cyst is now being called a benign tumor. I got into a lot of bleeding in the surgery due to the large tumor bed, and after 2 days in the ICU and 8 units of blood later, I am pleased to report that the baby and I are doing well, and at home. The final results of the pathology of the tumor are not in yet. Is there a chance that the final results could show that this "benign tumor" is really malignant? Or is it more of a way of distinguishing one type of tumor from another?
