Premerin

I have recently had a total hysterectomy.  The cancer cells were inside my ovaries, so they were removed during surgery.  My doctor suggest I try Premerin for a hormonal therapy.  Is it safe? Please advise.

I was told it was safe to take premarin and then move over to estrodial (which is a bioidentical hormone).  I was stage 1A.....I have since developed what they think is an ovarian remnant cyst that could have very well been brought on by the HRT - estrogen causing it to grow.  I have also been told to stay away from the over the counter remedies, as soy, black cohash, etc can mimic estrogen.  There is a connection with ovarian cancer and estrogen.  One day I will have to have surgery to remove it and we will know what it is then, until then we watch and watch and watch.  I do not know if it is cancerous, but, we do know that it is stable.
There is another  young lady that posts on this board Tybear (Becky)...also told that it was safe to take premarin.  Hope she is feeling well enough to come around and tell her story.  She will beg you to stay away from HRT.
Mary53 and I are real true hystersisters, and I love her dearly, but she and I agree to disagree about HRT....but, she and I will both agree that premarin is not a very good  choice.
HRT is a very personal choice...and for many people there are no issues in taking it....but, it is important to know all the choices.  Menopause is horrible...I am still having a really rough time with it, the night sweats, the lack of sleep, etc...but...one day it will get better.
Good luck to you.

My Dr now says there's some questions being asked about premarin being given after a historectomy. It can make the cancer worse in some cases, Depending on the type of cells.

I don't have a clue, but Mary should know about this.  I will send her an email. Most oncs don't recommend HRT after cancer surgery though. Was there any sign of cancer other than inside your ovaries?  Was it one or both?  What did you Dr stage you at?  You are lucky as only 20% of us have the cancer completely contained within the ovaries and that is a big plus.
