Procrit vs Transfusion

What are the parameters for getting Procrit and for getting a transfusion?

Your doctor should have parameters in place for this.  But, Procrit is supposed to raise the red blood cell count slowly (if it happened quickly, an allergic reaction could occur).  Sometimes, if your hemoglobin goes to about 8 or lower, Procrit probably wouldn't be indicated due to the slow response, and a doctor will have you go for a transfusion.  The count will raise a lot more quickly.  If your platelets are low, you can also get those transfused as well.
