Prometrium?

I am 30 years old. I went to the doctor for heavy periods, being tired, and right side pain. They said I have a complex ovarian cyst and put me on Prometrium. Is this the recommended treatment?

I apologize for my delay. I did not see this question earlier.

Prometrium is a progesterone that stabilizes the lining of the uterus. If irregular bleeding is thought to be due to a lack of ovulation, then adding back progesterone with make the periods more regular.

a more common approach is to just start a low dose birth control pill.

I would say that it is important that you have a follow up visit to recheck that cyst and also to see what your bleeding pattern is on the prometrium.

If you have not had a pap smear this year , it is very important that you get one .

if you continue to have abnormal bleeding despite the prometrium, you need a biopsy of the lining of your uterus. It would be unusual but not impossible for a 30 year old to have a precancer or a cancer in the uterine lining.

Also, you should have a blood test ton check for anemia.If you are anemic, you should start on iron supplementation
