Question - Hope someone has a better memory than me.

I've been searching and searching, but I recall reading somewhere where there are instances when taking progestin treatment for cysts and/or abnormal uterine bleeding is not appropriate, and actually, can make things worse.  I have a conference with my gynocologist tomorrow morning by phone to talk about my biopsy results and I want to check my facts in advance.  Actually, I know that from firsthand experience.  In 2000 my doc treated my bleeding with that and it got worse and in 2004, I was given a depo shot, which I think is mainly progesterone, and I was already bleeding and it got much, much worse and I had my procedure done early.  That was supposed to thin my endometrium beforehand, but all it did is cause a major flooding incident.

Anyhow, if anyone knows the answer to this, please let me know and where I might pull the information up from.  Thanks.  Love, hugs and God bless, Barb

As far as effect on cysts I do not know, but studies have shown that taking progesterone with estrogen increase your risk for breast cancer.  Estrogen alone is the best way to go when talking aobut hormone therapy-one study actually showed a decrease in you chances of getting breast cancer.  Progesterone in any form causes more breakthru bleeding-I cannot take any form of progesterone.  My doc gave me a progesterone only bcp to get rid of my cysts but I had a 31 day period with it.  I will do some searching myself.

Personnally, I feel that we really need to be carefull with these hormones that they give us.  Not every combination works for every woman.  There is no one size fits all.  You are in my thoughts and prayers - let us know what happens today. Godspeed

Dian.  Thanks for your hardwork.  You too Katie.  I'll check back in the morning.  I've got to get away from this thing.  Been on it all day long today for one thing or another, some actually real work.

Dian.  How long in Iowa?  Love, hugs and Good Night Barb.

Just keep on comming Honey; you'll never catch me!  I am lurking in the shadows of the palmetto trees and yucky bushes in Florida (I live in Iowa now, though). Forget that.
I love these parallel jaunts into laughter and fun...they don't happen very often.
I will keep looking; maybe I will get lucky.
Peace to you, kiddo!

Too funny.  I never believed that dog story from the kids I taught ... til I got dogs.

I've been looking too, there is a bit on that Canadian web site I posted but not much.  I support your approach, try to hang on to it if you can without more surgery.

I feel like I am stalking you Dian!!

But I DID do my homework.  The dog ate it.

Pacific Northwest, so I'm in the Pacific time zone.  It's 8:29 p.m.  Thanks Dian.  I thought I had my information bookmarked, but I guess not.  Actually, it might have even been with this doc that I talked about it a little bit already. I reminded him of the failed hormone treatment and that I'd already had a hotwater ablation and would like to step it up to laser, rather than a hysterectomy.  I'm not terribly attached to my uterus or ovaries, especially right this moment because of all the problems, but I just had that huge bowel surgery.  Right now because of the bleeding and being kinda sick again, I'm running low on hemoglobin and don't want to go through open surgery again for that reason as well.  But I've got to do something.  Going on hormones made my symptoms worse back in 2000.  I don't think I have a huge argument with the doctor coming up since we talked already.  The first ablation didn't stop my menses, but it did straighten them out for about 15 months.  My thinking is the more aggressive type ablation, done with a scope and laser, might buy me the time I need to just get through to menopause without having to have another open surgery.  Lap could be out because of my previous abdominal surgery being so huge.

Anyhow, thanks, and I'm going to keep looking too.  Barb

Why didn't you put this up earlier today?  I could just smack you.....I am not having any luck right now but I will try again later....you need answers by when in the morning......you are reminding me of my kids the night before a report is due ( I'd never admit I am the worst procastinator I know).
Hopefully someone will come up with something before your appt.....where are you....in Canada....What time zone...what a ding ****....boy can I identify!!
I'll check back later.
Good luck finding Peace ( and answers and questions), Lady!
