Question about ascites with ovarian cancer...

I posted a while back that I have been suffering with more-or-less all of the symptoms of ovarian cancer for months now. Still actually waiting on an appointment and feeling no better. My GP seems to entirely disregard the notion that it could be ovarian cancer because of my age (I'm only 19), however, as you all know, just because it is rare doesn't mean it doesn't happen... and apparently ovarian cancer DOES happen to a few thousand "young women" every year. I've only seen one gyn who didn't even do a pelvic, just said it must either be IBS or Endo. Sometimes, I don't know how certain people because legally licenced to prctice medicine.

I have been wondering, though, for those of you who have experienced bloating caused my the cancer, when you would lie flat (on your back, let's say), did your tummy flatten out or did it continue to protrude? Because when I lie on my back, I don't look bloated at all... but when I sit, I feel like I'm 4 mo. pregnant.

Can't wait to actually see a competant doctor and put all this worrying to rest, for better or worse.

I was struggling with IBS-constipation for three years before I was diagnosed with OvCa stage 3C. They DID a lot of tests at the time - CT scan, barium follow-up, colonoscopy, gallbladder, all normal. I BEGGED my gyn to do an ultrasound, and that was normal as well; he laughed off the notion it could be OvCa. At my age - I was then 40 - the chances of getting it were less than 1%. 2 years later I had it.

Over those three years, I was bloated as bad as 5 months pregnant, especially in the evening, sometimes it was so bad I cried. But in the morning I was fairly flat. In summer 05 even when flat on my back I noticed a slight bulge, but couldn't feel any tumor underneath - felt like a bloat bulge.

Oct 05 I was treated for a bladder infection that really wasn't one, and given a laxative for a lump that was felt on my left side. Nov 05 I was diagnosed with cancer, 6 tumors in my abdomen, one of which was 7" diameter.

Some doctors are clueless. Like you, I often wonder how they can possibly be legal.

My suggestion is to call a gyn-oncologist and find out if they can see you even though you have not yet been diagnosed with anything.

Oh, and they also sucked out two quarts of ascites, cancerous, during surgery.
