Question for Bananie22 re your stitches

Long time, no chat Bananie22!  I hope this post finds you well.  You may recall awhile back we chatted about my "second belly button" (which has now given way to a third, by the way).  Well, it turned out that I did have a bad infection, and I've been on Keflex since last weekend.  A hole opened up and let some of the infection out, which helped release some pressure (sorry to be gross), so that's good, but since then what also is making their way out are my stitches.  I recall that happened to you, too, and I'm wondering if that was anything that required additional attention from your doctor.  I guess if my body heals itself closed at the incision site it doesn't matter, but I just want to be certain and I'd love to learn about your experience (I have a call out to my doctor).  I still have the hard inch-long lump above the incision, but I'm hoping that will go away over time.  Fingers crossed!

Oh boy...sorry to hear you now have three belly buttons!
Ok...the stitches didn't require anything from the doctor.  They did refer me to a surgeon, but while I was waiting to see him it sorta started to poke out of the hole and I pulled it out myself!  (I'M SO SORRY TO GROSS ANYONE OUT!!)  It was pretty nasty.  I had several work there way out over the years.  This surgery was in 1981 or 82 and I pulled a stitch out in 1994!  I finally figured out the dates (I had it written down) of when the stitches came out.  Oh yeah, also, where I developed the hernia...that's where the final stitch came out, not in the belly button area.  When I asked the doctor about this he said it found a "weak spot" to work through.  So now I have a belly button way over to the left of my scar...oh yes my stomach is very attractive!  ;)  Why my body didn't want to absorb these is beyond me.  I'm glad you have a call into the doc as yours seem to be working out sooner than mine did.  Better to be sure.  Post again when you hear what they think you should do...I'm curious.

Thanks so much for the additional info, Bananie22!  Are internal stitches supposed to last so many years?  For some reason I guess I assumed that they would dissolve.  Whatever they are made of, my body doesn't seem to like them either.  Hope you're feeling well today, and that you have a great weekend~

Your welcome!  How are you feeling?  You know, I bet stitches are different now.  This was over 20 years ago.  I seem to recall the word "cat gut", now where I heard this or why this is what's coming to my mind I couldn't tell you.  It HAS to be slang for the type of stitches right?  Otherwise...EW!  All they told me at the time is that they wouldn't disolve and that my body would "absorb" them.  I don't think my body cared for them...it worked for years to get them out.
What did your doc say about your situation, did they call you back?
You have a great weekend too, the weather is turning so nice here and the next two days are supposed to be beautiful!  =)
