Question for Mary 53

Hi Mary .... I've been searching the net trying to find information on estrodial production and the liver.  I am ER+PR-.  On a different forum I was told that alchohol consumtion (any kind) increases the estrodial produced by the liver.  I can't find anything that suggests that.  I also have read where red wine is good for ovarian cancer.  I am so confused.  Is there anywhere on the net that I could get more information on this subject.  Thank you.... Cindy

Hi Mary ... I was so glad to see your post.  After my second surgery I had my tumors tested for estrogen.  ER+ means that they are receptive to estrogen and PR- means progesterone(sp.?) negative.  I'm not real sure what the combination means.  I have a conference with my doctor May 6th to discuss treatment options.  Some sort of maintenance treatment.  He mentioned Tamoxifen.  That is an estrogen blocker (I think).  I'm still learning.  There is also another drug called femara.  I just finished chemo and I am thinking that I might save these drugs for down the road to give me a chemo break.  I hope I have a very long remission.  This disease is a sneaky one.  I want to make sure that I don't let it get ahead of me again.  I will leave you a message if I can find any information on the subject.  The above mentioned estrogen blocking drugs are used for breast cancer.  I don't know how effective they are for ovarian cancer.  Wine drinking will be something I will give up if I have too.  I've stopped eating soy.  I will eat products with small amounts of soy only.  I just received the test results a few weeks ago.  Thank you for your help and if you find anything on the subject please leave me a message.  Looking forward to hearing from you....Cindy  ps.  I did read your previous post...LOL...I live at Smith Mountain Lake, VA and most of my family lives in NJ.

Hi Cindy,

Sorry it took awhile to get back to you. I wanted to do some research, too, and I could not find any information on Estradial being produced by the liver either. I don't see my doctor for another two months but will ask where I could get more information on this. I am sure there are studies out there but we have yet to find them! I am assuming that you read my post to Star on Leslee's update where I spoke about the bladder/hormone issue. If you did not read that post and you just asked me out of the blue, then I am for sure going to buy a lottery ticket tonight! I have been studying this hormone issue for 8 years now and just this week I heard about Estradial being produced by the liver!

I read your profile and you certainly have been through so much already!

I see that you are from VA. I am origionally from Silver Spring, MD, and my brother went to school in VA and my niece lives in VA and and and and and :)))   I love making those connections in case you cannot tell!

Let me know if you find anything out...and, I will take a look at the Alcohol/estrogen issue. I did not reseach that today.

I am sorry to have to ask, but I am not sure what ER and PR mean. Do you mind telling me? I am curious. Thanks.

Now, on the Red Wine issue....well, I Know that my husband would say that Red Wine cures anything :)  But again, I have not seen research on that. Interesting. Maybe someone else has information on this???

Sincerely, Mary
