Question please

After hysterectomy how long do you think until you can drive a car  and go up ststeps?  My boss is much older and she said when she had one a long time ago she could not do steps for a year.  I am going to ask my doctor but that sounds like it is not right possible.  I have to do steps to do my job.

That sounds much more real to me.  I told my sister I think it was becasue she is so much older and never had kids so maybe it is harder.  She is old enough to retire long time ago but has no family so she wants to keep at work.

Hey there, you must be a fellow dog lover.  I love dogs, too.
Welcome aboard!

When is your hysterectomy scheduled for?

Hi, I was off work for 6 weeks and I could do SOME stairs real slow when I got home from surgery and only once a day.  It was about 3-4 weeks before it was a little easier.  If you do a lot of stairs with your job I'd be prepared for the 6 weeks off.

Thank you.  I work at a motor lodge.  It has two storys.  My friend says she will give me the bottom one as much as she can but sometimes it depend on who is checking out when and how many people are there that nite.

My boss will give me the six weeks if I need them.  I am pretty sure I can do that so far as money since it is summer my husband gets a lot of extra work.

My surgery is July 11.

A pretty standard time frame is 6 weeks for driving.  Steps is an individual thing, but should be approached with moderation.  I have a big issue with things that get in the way of effective healing.  That includes lifting objects that we presume to be safe.  If its heavier than a gallon of milk, its too heavy.  I was made to understand that the driving band was due to the use of stomach muscles when pressing down on pedals (yes, that has an effect on your stomach muscles), as well as the danger of injury from seatbelts.  The temptation is very great to drive early, climb up and down steps and lift/push.  All of these things and lots more take their toll on our abdominal muscles.  Regardless of what type of incision, you're still going to have muscles that are cut.  Please give yourself the chance to recover completely.  You're worth it.
peace,
Anne

Oh gosh, I didn't even think about stairs... I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building.  And the laundry room is 16 stairs away!

I haven't thought about stairs either!

Will walking up and down them in a take it easy and slow manner compromise your healing?

I had to have a life saving operation due to a large haematoma after my first laparotomy 16 years ago.  I really don't want that to happen again.

I plan to take things very easy this time.  Am I better off sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs for the first few weeks after I come home?  We have a shower room downstairs.

I can remember my Mom warning me not to do a lot of things, including ironing.  I used to just yes her to death (God bless her), but now I see things a lot differently.  I know that not all of us are fortunate enough to have effective help around our homes when we get discharged, but if you can manage it at all...don't do anything to jeapordize your healing.  We deserve the right to heal effectively.
peace,
Anne
