Radiology Report??

Radiology Report??

Hi There,
I got my report back and went to a GYN who has referred me to another my appt with then next one is oct 3rd.We are thinking a hysterectomy is what we are going to do. Here is what the radiologist stated:

Uterus has a homogeneous pattern and measures 8.3x5.0x3.7, the endometrium is less than 2mm in AP dimension. However, there are numerous cysts within the right ovary which is enlarged to 4.3x3.0x2.2. The largest of these measures less than 3cm in size but has a thickened wall and the appearance of septation. It may be the wall of other adjacent small cyst. No fluid is seen in the cul-de-sac and no masses are identified in the left adnexa

Impression:
Status post left oohorectomy with numerous right ovarian cyst. Most of these are simple cyst but one has a thickened possible septated wall as discussed above and because of the convoluted appearance, focal hydrosalpinx may be a consideration. Laparoscopy maybe necessary.

What in the world does all this mean???
We looked at the cyst last week and it now we think ruptured or is rupurting I now have fluid behind or in my uterus...

I work for a Radiologist and type his x-ray reports every day.  I can help to sort some of this out.  First of all, status post left oophorectomy means you have had your left ovary removed.  You have numerous simple (benign fluid-filled cysts) on your right ovary.  One cyst seems to concern them - the one with thickened septated (divided)walls.  It is also convoluted which means it has a twisted, grooved or folded appearance.  The focal hydrosalpinx means there is distention of your fallopian tube by clear fluid.
They go on to recommend laparoscopy which is a surgery in which they make three or four tiny cuts in your abdomen and look at what is going on in there with tiny flexible tubes.  There will be no major cutting and you will recover quickly.
As for the cyst that concerns them, it doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong, it just looks different than a simple cyst and they may have to go in with that laparoscopic surgery to look at it just to make sure and find out why the fluid is building up in your fallopian tube.
I hope this helps!  Good luck!

After posting my reply, I went back and read over your report again, and I noticed this time that it said you MAY have hydrosalpinx (fluid in fallopian tube), he just thought this might be a consideration, it was not a definite finding.
Also, I noticed that he did not definitely see a thick walled cyst, he just said that it is also a consideration.  It could be that there are so many simple cysts that some of them grouped together appeared to be one thick walled cyst, so don't panic and keep your follow up appointments!  Good luck.
