Reassurance

First let me say that you ladies have provided me with knowledge and strength since my journey began earlier this year.
I am 45, have been experiencing all the relevant symptoms of ovca since June 2009. Went to ob/gyn, had tv/us and endometrial biopsy, both normal. My instinct is telling me otherwise. Family history includes hysterectomies for ALL females relative on my mother's side of the family. I went ahead and requested an appointment with gyn/onc( based on info I found here :) ) and was granted one within 48 hours of my request.
I want to request surgery and am wondering if in your experience 1) whether this is valid and 2) the odds of the doctor granting my request.

I think this depends on the reason why your relatives had a hysterectomy.  Was it due to Ovarian Cancer, or was it for other reasons?  I'm sure that will make a difference with the GYN/ONC and how high he/she feels the risks are for you, especially given the fact that everything came back normal on your recent tests.  

Since this forum deals with Ovarian Cancer, I'd say 99.95% of the people here didn't have a choice as to whether they would have a hysterectomy.  I'm not trying to brush you off on another forum, but I think you might have a better response as far as the pros and cons of a prophylactic hysterectomy if you posted your question in the Hysterectomy forum.  Great job on being proactive and going directly to a GYN/ONC to answer your concerns, though.

Thank you so much for responding. I should have mentioned that all were done due to endometrial/ovarian cancer or precancer. Since my syptoms (symptoms) most closely match those of ovca, I thought I would start here.
