I had laproscopic surgery on the 3rd of april only 3 weeks and 2 days and I am going back to the classroom tomorrow. I tried to get to bed early but I am nervous about going back and can't get to sleep. I have 2 sick time left. I've had so many surgeries that I used them all. I know my health is more important but a small part of me says I can do it. I know, I must be crazy to try this. Kathy
Annette...
For your own good, try not to rush the healing process. If you had a laparotomy, you probably have driving restrictions. I rushed back after one of my abd surgeries and regretted it. It's very difficult for us not to think of our students, grades, etc. You'll get back to them in a much healthier and functional state if you play by the rules for this. Thank God for IM's, Blackboard and email...they can contact us if they need us. Take care of yourself!!!
peace,
Anne
Please try not to push it as this is when complications arise. When my Mom told me after the Hyster that I was not to do or lift anything for six weeks I listened to her and my Dr. and everything healed quickly and nicely. If you have the Insurance and not in a bad cash situation, I hope you take the time to heal properly. Who wants to be in the Hospital again, not me! Heres to feeling better each day!!!!!
I know just how you feel- two weeks after my surgery I didn't think I would be able to get back teaching before 6 weeks. The sub I have is terrible and the students aren't learning a thing. By the middle of the 3rd week (last week) I started to feel so much better. I went into school on Friday -it was so great to see my students- the hugs and kisses gave me the needed boost. I am going back this Wednesday I know physically I could rest a little longer- but my students are great and I won't need to lift a thing - I got a temporary disability tag for my car so I don't need to walk so far. It's only been a week - I forgot what type of surgery did you have? Mine was laproscopic - I can't say I'm not a little nervous going back - Good luck Kathy
I tried to go back to work 8 weeks post-op, desk job, worked 4 hours a day for 3 days and suffered a major setback with very painful incision - probably tore a muscle - and was back on rest and percocets. After that I was very careful. I work with students too and hate to leave them and my coworkers in a bind but it just hinders the healing process if you do too much to soon. Listen to your body and give it the time it needs. This is major surgery.
It is going to take your body several weeks to recover from the surgical process and even more time for your body to be completely healed. Believe me you will know when you have done too much as fatigue and pain will set in. Try to pace yourself and not overdo otherwise you may suffer a setback. Please try to be patient. We are all strong women here, but surgery like this does take a toll on the body. Hang in there! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed
