all the medicinal mushrooms have 'beta glucans' which is their suspected anti-cancer mechanism (polysaccharides).  While Reishi is a 'popular' mushroom, and like the other medicinal mushrooms does have anticancer mechanisms, it is not very bioabsorbable.  The only medicinal mushroom that you can take orally to have an effect is Maitake and especially the Maitake D-Fraction formulation (the most popular and best formulated, and IND status with the FDA is the Grifron Pro from Maitake Products Inc. www.maitake.com).

A study that compared all the medicinal mushrooms showed little to no anticancer activity with any other mushroom when taken orally except for the maitake d-fraction.

Now anticancer claims are not supported because it is not a drug.  Only FDA approved drugs, tested in the clinical trials and double blind studies, can ever prove this.  That being said, only Maitake D-Fraction has Investigational New Drug status with the FDA, bypassed Phase I testing due to it's already safe history, and is in continued Phase II studies for Breast and Prostate cancer where it has shown activity in prior studies.  Remember, Ovarian Cancer (until recently) has been the stepchild of the cancer research community because of the (comparativley) low numbers of women who get it, so there has been no well formulated studies.

I forgot to add that Maitake D-Fraction is the only 'supplement' that the Memorial Sloan Ketting cancer center allows their patients to take with all forms of chemotherapy and radiation.  It's also endorsed by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (via their endorsement of the book "How to treat an and prevent cancer with naural medicine")

Reishi is very good also. New Chapter is a very good company in Vermont. Turmeric is good too. All mushrooms are good. A lot of research coming out on all varieties. And the maitake that Alan talks about is very good.

Get a few including the Maitake D-Fraction! I have that (Griffon) with New Chapter mushrooms also.
