Removal of ovary

Through routine ultrasound of my pelvic, a solid mass of the ovary has been discovered. My OBGYN wants to remove my ovary laproscopiclly. Will this procedure remove the ovary & tumor in one piece or is there a chance of disturbing the tumor? My OBGYN thinks that this growth is a fibroma, however there is no guaranty until it is tested. If this tumor turns out to be a malignency, will this procedure increase my chances of spreading cancer cells or is it a virtually safe quick removal proceedure?

Thank you so much for your information. I feel more confident now, that everything will turn out ok for me. One of my biggest fears was that the tumor (if turning out to be malignant) would be disturbed and bad cells spilled into my womb. I don't believe my tumor is as large as yours was and if you did ok then I should do well too. I'm still scared but much better after hearing from you. Thanks!!

Yes it is possible that the MD can remove the ovary and mass thru a laporoscopy, they bag the cyst and remove it whole to prevent spilling the contents into your abdomen.  In November I had an ovary, tube and complex cyst (the size of an orange) with solid componants along with endometriosis removed thru a laproscope.  If you read some of the other comments in this forum, a few people have had bigger cysts removed thru a laproscope as well.  My Dr prepared me that if anything looked suspicious he would do a laporotomy after the initial inspection with the scope.  I had 4 small incisions, the biggest being about 1 1/2" long.

Good luck to you and keep us posted as to what is happening.
