Rising CA 125 levels

by mikena, Nov 02, 2009 12:06PM
Mymom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer !c, grade 3 on february. She had her ovaries removed,  chemo followed. Her CA 125 levels after chemo-  in august were 6, now, three months later they are 15, which is more than double. I read somewhere here in the forum that this double increase in CA-125 in such a short period is not very good, and I am so worried, I cannot stay in one place.. Can you give me some information?

Hi There
at low numbers such as 6 and 15, it is hard to worry too much. There will be lab variation on that level. What is important is serial measurements over time say at least 3-4 times.
if her levels are like 6 then 15 then 12 then 10 then 16  that is just lab variation

if her levels are 6 then 15 then 45 then 100
clearly something is going on with the tumor
take care
