Scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy after getting final opinion!

Hi cysters!
I haven't posted in quite a while, but wanted to let you know the updates. I finally have a wonderful gyn- she listens and explains everything -who will perform an abodminal hysterectomy on May 30th (long wait)! The cysts on my right ovary are still there, the one on my left is complex and has grown. Several of the doctors believe that my initial diagnosis of a subseptus uterus is incorrect and that I actually have a large fibroid that has distorted the uterus. I fought to keep my ovaries (I'm 43), and the surgeon has agreed. They will do a cystectomy on the ovaries and then remove the uterus (I'm leaving the cervix). Also, they will repair a rectocele that formed after the difficult birth of my son 21 years ago. I decided that since all the doctors agreed ( I sought out three additional opinions) it was necessary to have the uterus and cysts removed, I'm going for a tummy tuck! Yup, if they're going to slice me open anyway, might as well get put back together in a better way! :) :). If I don't do it now, probably never will.  They said the surgery will last a little over six hours (egads). They are doing another ultrasound on May 8th. My uterus had grown 3 cm in 6 weeks, but the doctor believes this is incorrect and is just technician error. Sure hope she's right, I'd hate to think about a fibroid growing that fast. Anyway, hope that any of my cysters who have been told to remove their organs get another opinion!! My 1st doctor had wanted to remove everything - so GLAD I didn't! I need to catch up again on all of the posts. Hope you are all doing well! Robin

Hi Robin!
You are the first woman I've found that has done what I want to do (Hysterectomy and Tummy tuck at the same time) I'm in the Phoenix area - do you mind sharing the name of your GYN and Plastic Surgeon?  How are you feeling? Would you recommend both procedures at the same time?  What hospital did you use?  Where you happy?  Thanks for any input, I REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks for the positive reinforcement! I know this seven weeks is going to drag by.........but at least I'll have time to get ready for my leave at work and at home. Mary, I'd love to meet you! I'm about an hour from Scottsdale, but I will be there on the eighth of May for an appointment. Will you still be here then? If not, we can still get together one of the other days. Where will you be staying? How great would it be to actually meet in person?! Wish the rest of the cysters could join us, too. We could have a cyster non-cyber party! REAL MARGARITAS and everything :)

Robin - good for you for seeking the additional opinions.  Sounds like you have things well in hand.  And way to go on seeking the tummy tuck too.  Good luck and we'll be thinking of you - the end of May will come around before you know it.  Spice

I was just thinking about you today!  So glad that you are getting the surgery and the care you need.  I so think that the tummy tuck should be standard procedure, since these growths tend to distend our bellies and then they leave all of this excess skin.  You sound like you've got your head around this and are well prepared.  We will wait with you and be here when you are on the RS.  You are in my thoughts and prayers!  Godspeed
