Sciatic nerve pain post laparoctomy

I had surgery 7 months ago to remove cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, ovary, etc.  After the surgery I started complaining about sciatic nerve pain.  The seems to be getting worse and is more frequent.  Can anyone relate or offer any suggestions?  Should I post on another forum?

I had my hysterectomy 4 yrs 8 months ago.  After surgery I started having pains from my buttock to the back of my knee.  I told my doctor I had an MRI nothing was discovered.  So they put me in physical therapy but I still have pain and the more i sit the worse it gets.  I told my PCP about it just a week ago and she put me on Neurontin i've been takin this for a few days but it doesn't seem to be helping.  I don't understand because I've been fighting with this for almost 5 years and it's not getting any better.

No, actually it didn't start till about a month ago so it has me very nervous it's recurrance which is why I am tense about my CA 125 test..but such major surgery I am sure takes its toll on other things.

I too am 9 mos post op and am also experiencing what I am sure is sciatic nerve pain. I had full hysterectomy in August but last month started with nagging pain in back side that got worse. Actually last week I started sleeping with heat pad (which was interesting with the hot flashes) but it really helped. The weird thing is just this weekend I had a bad attack of diarrhea and then horrible hives...and now the pain is gone? I plan to tell gynoncol all about it this week. Waiting for latest CA 125 results so sort of nervous all over. Did tell him about pain in back side love handle area and he thought it was muscular? Anyway, did some digging online and found it's very common to have femoral nerve damage after hysterectomy so plan to ask about that too.

That you for the info.  I will mention it to my doctor.  Did you experience any pain shortly after your surgery.  I had six fibroids removed and a host of other things so I am almost certain something was distrubed during the surgery.

I wonder if scar tissue or a surgical adhesion has sort of wrapped around the area near the sciatic nerve?   From my understanding, if the surgery is more invasive there is a greater chance of finding adhesions as the body heals. Some addominal surgeries cause more adhesions than others...again, from my understanding. And, not everyone gets adhesions.

I was able to break up my problematic adhesions back in 2001 after a total hysterectomy in 2000. The adhesions were literally colapsing my colon and I was getting symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome from that. The body rolling, where I literally rolled on a ball on the pubic bone and out to the area where the ovaries once were and then back to the pubic bone again, caused a great amount of blood to flood the area after I finished the rolling in about a ten to twenty minute time span, and with the blood cqame lots of oxegyn, thus breaking up the adhesions. Check with your doctor to see what the general opinion is about your situation.

I just saw my orthopedic doctor for sciatic type pain, but ruled it out completely given the exact area of the pain. When I had sciatica in college many years ago, I was able to treat the pain with an exercise regime which truly helped.

Best of luck to you and hope that the pain subsides very soon....
