Septated ovarian cyst

My gyn has been following a septated cyst since August 2006. I do not have the ultrasound results from Nov but Jan 2007 the ultrasound "dominant cyst, containing internal septation which appears slightly thicker a compared to previous exam of 11/7/06.  This cyst measures 3.3 x 2.2 x 2cm. The March 2007 ultrasound "cystic mass measuring 3.6 x 2.4 x 3.4 cm.  This cystic mass contains mildly thickened septations and no mural nodularity".  

I knew the cyst was there as I had a dull ache on the right side and the pelvic exam was more than uncomfortable when manipulating that ovary.

I am 50 years old, had my uterus removed in 1988.  What is the incidence of cancer related to septated cysts?  When is surgical removal of cyst and ovary a consideration.  My gyn says another ultrasound in 6 months and wait for menopause to begin.

The chance of cancer is low. But if you have a cyst that is not going away and is giving you symptoms, you should ask your doctor about having that ovary removed. I am not sure that menopause will alter this cyst if it has not gone away in 6 months

It is common for doctors to follow up on cysts after a couple of months to see if there is any change.  Although you have no uterus, you still may be pre-menopausal at 50 and still ovulating.  The cysts are not very big, lots of doctors will not do anything on a cyst smaller then 5-6 cms.  I don't think that 6 months is an unreasonable amount of time to wait, but, if you want it sooner, why not push for another sono in 3 months???
