September OVCA Awareness Month activities

I have just seen in some journals comments about activities in September for OVCA awareness and found one near me in Morristown NJ. I was wondering if anyone else is in my area and would want to join me for the walkathon? It is September 14th. I was also wondering whether there is an actual countrywide or global (assuming Septemeber is OVCA awareness month in all countries) list of activities somewhere to make it easier to find and participate in some activity during September to raise awareness and funding for OVCA? Does anyone know?

There is -- www.ovarian.org -- at the bottom there is an "event calender" that you can access with NOCC events all over the US!

im sorry... but this pisses me off.   NOTHING in Maryland or DC?

I'm starting to get angry (stages of acceptance perhaps?) that I do 3 different events for breast cancer (NOT complaining or upset... love to support all survivors and fighters) in a calender year and nothing?!?!? nothing for OVCA?

I emailed my Nocc representative for Ct over a week ago  to find out what plans were in the making for Sept in CT and guess what.....NO RESPONSE !  Guess it is up to us "survivors " to make a TEAL Sept.

We are having a Walk on Long Island in Sept....it's not too far from CT!!!!!  It is Sept 20th...we would love for ALL of you to join us!!!!!

The NOCC is volunteer organization....as a member myself, I can tell you how hard it is to get people to put in the time and effort it takes to pull off any fundraising event.  I hear and understand everyone's frustration regarding breast cancer, but, in reality, breast cancer does effect many more people then OvCa....we unfortunately have been touched by a rare disease....and it is up to us to do everything we can to raise awareness.  10 years ago the Susan B Koman Fund, The Baldwin Foundation and the Avon Breast Cancer Walks were much smaller than they are now....it took the dedication of volunteers and lots of long hard hours for them to get to where they are today.  Why not volunteer and if there is no walk this year, you can make certain that there will be one next year.

Many of the volunteers at the NOCC and other non-for-profits are survivors.  Our chapter is made up of long term survivors, short term survivors, recurrences and family and friends that have been affected by this disease...and you are right, it is up to us to make a TEAL September.....people don't know about this disease unless we tell them, we didn't know until it affected our lives!!!!!

I challenge everyone to educate just 10 people a week for the month of Sept about Ovarian Cancer!!!!  Talk to people when you are on line in the grocery store.... . If you have kids, talk to some of the other mothers at school....talk to people at work...just talk and talk and talk about OvCa for the month of Sept....think of all the people that together as a united front we could reach!!!!!
