Serous Borderline Tumour

After having a cystectomy I have been diagnosed with a serous borderline tumour. My consultant is suggesting a hyserectomy. is it really that serious that I need a hysterectomy. I am 40 & have never had children of my own.

Hi There,
a borderline ovarian tumor is a slow growing malignancy. It is usualy cured by the complete removal of the tumor. If you still have the ovary that the tumro came from, you should have another surgery to removal that one ovary and fallopian tube. If there are other tumors seen, that is a reason for a larger surgery.

The complete removal of both ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the utuerus, and the appendix would be a very complete surgery for those women who have completed their families. That bigger surgery will be protective against the development of other tumors or more aggressive cancers. However, if you plan to have children, you should have them first before further surgery.
