Serous Pappilary Adenocarcinoma -- prognosis

Serous Pappilary Adenocarcinoma -- prognosis

I am Usha Ghosh (79 yrs).  I was admitted to the hospital on August 6, 2009 on an emergency basis and after a series of pathological tests, the doctors suspected that I might be suffering from cancer.  While the fluid taken out of my stomach did not indicate presence of malignant cells, CT scan of abdomen stated:

1. A large pelvic mass with ascites -- likely ovarian neoplasm.
2. Muliple collapsed sclerotic vertebrae.

The doctors suggested a CA 125 test and went for surgery after that.
I am told that the CA 125 value is 346

The Gynaecological Surgeon who performed the operation reported to my house physician the following about the operation and what were his findings thereof:

There were lots of ascites in the peritoneum. Some amount of fluid was removed.
The tumor was very large, full of blood and had penetrated or got entangled with ovaries, uterus, omentum, parts of large intestine, rectum and bladder. The tumor depicted fungating growth and together with the other organs it looked like a cauliflower.
It had not penetrated the liver and to the naked eye there were no symptoms of metastases to the liver.
Due to the penetration/entanglement with good number of pelvic organs and especially due the risk of heavy bleeding from the tumor, the Surgeon didn’t proceed further with the operation and closed the opening after very carefully taking out tissue samples from the tumor for the purpose of biopsy.
Post closure the solid tissue sample was sent for histopathology and the ascites fluid was sent for pap stain.

We received the reports yesterday stating "Moderately differentiated, Serous Pappilary Adenocarcinoma."  I would like to know what the prognosis is.

I suffer from hypertension.  I am physically weak but mentally extremely strong.  I hope I can lead a painless life, however short it might be.

Thank you.

Usha

First, I would suggest getting copies of all your reports and have them sent to a GYN/Oncologist.

What follow up has been suggested?

There are many different types of drugs and chemos, some harder on the body than others....I am sure that the doctors will be able to find something to keep you comfortable and pain free.

Please let us know what the doctor has to say, what the suggested follow is.

Hi Usha its Brooke.  I am sorry to hear of your stresses at this moment.  I agree that you should see a GYN/ONC and try to do what you can to agressivly treat all of this.  I would definately demand a prognosis and seek other opinions if you do not like theirs.  I am here to talk if ever you need.  Keep us posted
