When Zofran, Kytril, compazine, phenergan, Aloxi didn't work for me, the Dr prescribed Emend. It worked wonders.
Thank you all so much from my heart I have got everything ginger I can think of after chemo she has dexamethsone for nausea levomepromzine omeprazole and domperidone but no joy the past few days I have felt just what more can I do she just does not look like my mum anymore but I did wonder as you have mentioned if more is going on inside but again I thank you all so much as I have so many mixed emotions love to you all Jane X X X
Has she been worked up for another cause of nausea? I had nausea as a symptom and they found a hiatal hernia, I an on a medication that blocks gastric acid and it works. They maybe assuming the nausea is part of the cancer.
My daughter uses ginger, they give it for morning sickness and also motion sickness, it is very safe. Also ginger has been demostrated to perhaps be an aide to killing the cancer cells. She took it throughout her chemo and still does.
Did the nurses not give her anti-nausea medication?? I agree with silver, ginger tea works so do ginger tablets/capsules...And if you can find an Asian grocery store, ask for preserved plums or orange peels (both considered as chinese sweet). They are dry and have a slite tart and salty taste...have your mom suck on a slice or piece...Works wonders for nausea, motion sickness and hangovers...
you're not alone...what is she taking? Zofran (Onadestron)? That's the mainstay but doesn't work for everyone (not even my mom). Sometimes you just *can't* stop the nausea but here are some ideas to discuss with the dr:
- Scopolamine (Trans-Scop) patches. These go behind the ear and are good for 72 hours. Zofran didn't work for my mom, but these did (when nausea is not severe)
- Aloxi. This is a new one out there...but not everyone prescribes it. Supposed to give you long term anti-nausea relief.
- Phenagran. This might be an option.
Sometimes it can also be caused by what is going on internally...does she have a blockage? Intestinal surgery? Heavy opiod (pain) medication? This slows down the way the gut works...things like Reglan can help (it helps to make the wait time in the stomach quicker so it goes to the intestines....this might be an option for her).
