Severe side effect after second chemo

Severe side effect after second chemo

My mother just came back from her blood analysis after one week of the second chemo carbo/taxol. Her white cell count is only 2.2, way below the normal range which is 4.0 to 10.0. The doctor gave her an injection to boost this number, and then she feels very tired. Although her ca125 decreased only from 199 to 169 for the first chemo, her side effect was not that severe in the first time. For the second chemo, she felt really sick, did not want to eat, and alwyas felt really tired, and now the blood test got low numbers too. I am a little worried about her situation and donot know what we can do to help her. Her gyn doctor is 9 hours drive away and it is always difficult to get information from the doctor.

Without of the benefit of neupogen injections this can be a real problem.. Every chemo I had 3 injections to give myself and my white cell count stayed around 4.0 all through my chemo..You might want to suggest her having the injections as to keep her count up.
Sorry your Mom is hving this problems... and being tired won't usually go away for a while.. Good luck... Ronni

Nuelasta shots help white blood counts, too. Since your mother's doc is so far away, discuss self injection possibilities. I have had several, the first time  was in 2004 when getting carboplatin and cytoxan and I got one shot within 72 hours after receiving chemo,
worked well and allowed me to get rest of treatments on time. Does hurt when injected,  side effects for me  were non existent. Hope this info helps. withe

About all that you can do is continue with the neulasta or neupogen shots. Chemo affects us all different and there are so many side effects to it. Hopefully as her treatments continue the side effects will begin to ease up for her. I also had to recieve neulasta shots during my first chemo treaments and even shots for my red counts a few times. Her blood counts being low may have a lot to do with the way that she feels. Also it would not hurt to let her Dr know how she is feeling as several times during my first go round I also had to go to the hospital to recieve IV fuids and that helped a lot.
I hope that she begins to feel better before much longer.

For my mom, they gave her injections that assisted with the white blood cell count. I know there are a bunch of foods that assist with the red blood cell counth, but am unsure for the white. My mom is also very tired, we were blessed enough for her to et through the nausea with the assistance of a suppository. Our doctor's nurse also told us to not focus on her eating for the first week or so, but to keep her hydrated. Good luck, my prayers are with you!
