Shadow on my ovary

I have had ovarian cyst's for as long as I can remember. And have a long family history of ovarian problems. After having a cyst rupture and a recent trip to the doctor, a CT scan showed a shadow on my left ovary. The doctor said it looks like it could be a mass. What does this mean?

Hi, I know that's a scary report your doctor gave you. I hope he's planning to follow up with additional testing, a transvaginal ultrasound and a CA125 blood test.
He very well may give you a referral to a specialist, assuming that your current doctor is a GYN.
If he refers you to a GYN/ONC surgeon, don't feel that you have cancer and need major surgery, It's just that those doctors have had extensive training on female reproductive organ diseases. Be sure to take all test results with you.
