Should we be concerned

Should we be concerned

Hello to all and hope everyone is doing well.

Today we got the results for my Moms ca-125. In 8 days she will be 6 months post her chemo for ovca 3c.
She had her ca125 done September and it went to 6 from 5. I got worried so I begged her doc to order a new test. Two weeks later (begining of Oct) got another test and it went back down to 5. Now a month later, today, I got the results of her new test and it went up to 7.
Im am worried out of my mind. (Im a very worried doughter, I must add)
I know these numbers are considered in normal range, but I dont like to see it jump 2 points.
I have to mention that she's been on pain killers for the past month because she has 4 herniated disks and she also took anti-inflamitories for 10 days for relieve the inflamation (inflammation) in her disks.

Is this anything to be a little worried about
I guess what Im trying to say is that could this be an early sign of a reoccurance.

Any advise will be a lot of help for me.

Thank You so Much
-Fiana

Her CA125 is excellent.  The varying of a number or two is nothing...it will flucutate and there are various things that can cause the numbers to change.  If your doctors aren't concerned, I wouldn't be either.  They look for big jumps, numbers doubling.

May her CA125 forever stay in the single digits.  (I was stage 1A in 2000, the first time my CA125 went into the single digits was 6 months ago....I would go between 11 and 19...the last 2 times it has been 6.)

A few points doesn't matter at all.  I was told by a gyn/onc, even a cold can make the numbers go up.  It can be almost anything for a small increase.  Please don't drive yourself nuts over that. Sounds like your mom is doing great!  God bless her.  Merytre

Dear Hazel.. please don't stress yourself about such a low CA.125. I would say that your Mum is doing really well, and as nyclady said, her CA.125 is excellent. If I had your Mum's CA.125 I would be laughing... mine is currently 1600+, so your Mum is blessed I would say. I hope she continues to do well, and have a good, long remission. Best wishes....Helmar.

thanks so much.  Im not sure if her doctor knows the results yet, but we will be seeing him in 2 weeks so we'll see what he says then.  I will ask him though for another test just to give us a piece of mind.  Its very hard to go on for another 2 months for another ca125 test.

Back in 2002 when I was first diagnosed (1C) my CA 125 stayed in the double digits until I was almost 3 years into remission when it went to the single digits.  This time around it went down to 15 immediately after surgery, and then to single digits after only 3 treatments.  But it has fluctuated from 5.6 to 7.1 then back to 6 this last time (after 6 rounds).  Doctor told me there would be fluctuations and not to dwell on these numbers or we would make ourselves crazy (like I'm not there already?) What to worry about is when the values double.  I'm sure they have a close eye on this, though, and your job is to get your mom back on her feet and feeling better. I agree with the other ladies who have posted. The best advice is to try to put the numbers out of your mind as much as you can. Be so grateful your mom's CA 125 is where it is, and celebrate this.  I pray her numbers remain where they are, she never has to look back, and the road ahead is smooth for her.

I am a stage 3C OV and my CA 125 is fluctuating about the same as your mother's.  It was 4 when I ended treatment, 8 3 months ago and last month it was 5.  As a previous post says they start to be concerned when it doubles or triples, I did ask my physican and that is what I was told.  Since my Ca 125 was never elevated it was a question I wanted an answer to.
