Size of Normal Functional Cysts

Hi,

Does anyone know the size of the normal functional cysts that a woman gets every month during ovulation?
I am trying to decipher what I saw on my ultrasound yesterday(my dr. is going to take forever to call me back with the results).  The US tech said she saw a cyst on both ovaries and I saw the measurements of them.  I was thinking they could just be the normal monthly ones. Thanks for any info you might have!

My Ob told me today that a normal follicle is about an inch when its going to release and egg.

In metric terms, a  functional cyst is likely to measure anywhere from  1 cm to approximately 2.5 cm.  I should add, though, that apparently normal cysts can be larger than these measurements; several references I have read stated that a cyst of "5 cm or greater is of concern".

I have to say that I'm rather confused as to what is considered a "functional" cyst & what's considered to be normal.  My gynecologist keeps saying that my cyst is a "functional" cyst b/c it is VERY fluid filled; however it has been there for over 5 years & is now a little over 5.5cm & is giving me problems at this time, so I'm scheduled for surgery on April 7 to have it out.  You can read my posts listed under "groin pain".  Good luck with your cysts--sounds to me like they could be just a monthly ovulation thing, but I'm certainly no doctor and one who's still trying to figure out doctors! lol
