Small Cell Ovarian Cancer

My wife was diagnosed with a small cell ovarian tumour last summer. She had surgery to remove the affected ovary, followed by a 4 month course of chemotherapy (carbeplatin and etoposide), which hit her quite hard.

A few months ago she began to feel very nauseous (one of her intial symptoms last year) and was admitted to hospital. She was suffering from hypercalcemia, as she had last year before surgery, and has had several treatments to lower her calcium levels. Her CT scan showed that two more tumours had grown, and as the CT scan was not perfect, her Dr's guess that there may be some more smaller ones that did not show on the scan. She has not been offered surgery this time around, but will simply have a possible 6 month course of chemo. Due to the rareity of small cell ovarian tumours no-one has actually said that this will be terminal, however from the research that I have done on them I have found that they do not normally respond to chemo or radiotherapy.

My question is, do you think that this cancer will be terminal and roughly how long does it last? I know this is impossible to answer without knowing all of the details, however I would greatly appreciate some general information and ideas about what to expect.

Many thanks.
