Solid Ovarian Mass

Last week I had a routine transvaginal ultrasound, something I have had my provider do since 2001 when I lost my best friend to ovarian cancer.  They found a 2 cm solid mass.  CA 125 is 3, normal and nothing abnormal showed up on a CT scan (mystery).  We repeated the ultrasound today and the mass is still there, no idea how this could have been missed by a CT scan and makes me question the validity of the test for having ruled out the involvement of other organs or lymph nodes.  I am scheduled for laparoscopic surgery to remove my left ovary on March 2nd.  I am very worried that this will be cancer.  Please offer any guidance you might have.  Thanks!

It is imperative you have a gyn/oncologist perform your surgery....YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME......see a gyn/oncologist......this is their arena of expertise.....better safe than sorry.
Please keep us posted and hang in there.
Peace.

TVUS means "Transvaginal Ultrasound". Rather than ultrasounds taken from the "outside", it is performed vaginally.. Not painful. ..

The reason the age is important is that with premenopausal women, cysts are really very very common. Not so much as we get older .. So, it is more of a concern with postmenopausal women .

Don't forget, come over to the Ovarian Cyst forum. You'll get lots more responses..

I appreciate your comments, thank you.  I also have no idea why they use those terms interchangeably.  All I know for sure is that there is what appears to be a solid mass in my left ovary measuring 2.4x2.2x2.2. I am told that makes the mass 2 cm in diameter, but I would think that it would make it closer to 9 if you multiply all the dimensions and have had different people tell me different things.  I would think that if it was 9 cm it would have showed up on the CT scan though.  What is TVUS?  I am new to this and not familiar with the acronym.  Thanks again for your support and I hope all is well with you.  I am 42 and will complete my profile as soon as I can figure out how.

I know how frightening this is,.. but not all cysts (or masses ) are malignant. You haven't filled out your profile so I don't know how old you are.. but cysts are very common in women and 95 % benign. That cyst is also quite small. . They thought my cyst (also small) was solid.. turns out it was not.  I've heard that a TVUS is better than the Ct for detecting ovarian cysts (by the way, the seem to use cyst, mass and tumor interchangeably.. have no idea why)

Please don't worry and in the meantime, why not visit us on the Ovarian Cyst forum ..Right now that's all you're dealing with. There are many women with experience with Cysts , masses and the like.

Take care,
Sandy
