Some health tips which are useful for all of us.

Some health tips which are useful for all of us.

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong, the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer, it indicates that the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will
strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells. It also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation, while destroying cancer cells, also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

sorry here is the complete article...

9.. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other
sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it
white in colour.  Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened Soya milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juice provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for
building healthy cells, try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water - best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering.. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Sorry, call me a negative person, but I think a lot of that is ****. You can't tell me someone got cancer simply because they ate too much sugar or not enough veggies, or were stressed out too often. I guess if you choose to believe that, then that's the route you want to take. I don't think there is anything wrong with putting your body in a healthy state of mind, but don't tell me that my cancer came back because I drank too much milk, or had too many regular coffees. As far as I'm concerned, if your going to get cancer, then such is life. But, that's just my opinion - we're all entitled to one.

Hi Tybear: You also make very valid points. Any extremes are too "extreme."

I totally agree Becky.
Once again, trying to make the person who had the bad luck to get the cancer diagnosis feel responsible, bad or guilty because they ate sugar or whatever.  Who doesn't have stress in their life? Who didn't grow up drinking milk?
Chemo and radiation are all they are offering at the moment...

What about the 90 year olds who never ate a vegetable in their life, smoked and drank, etc.?  Why did Lance Armstrong get cancer?

No one really has the answers, and stuff like Kimchi posted is not at all appropriate here in this forum.

Talking just the sugar thing, I want to say that sugar does not cause cancer, but after you have had the necessary procedures done, surgery, chemo etc, then any loose cells will feed and grow on sugar. That is why most all onoco. tell you to avoid sugar. The O2 levels are another safeguard, it is a known fact that O2 is an enemy of cancer cells.  Since a complete cure for cancer is not available, then I believe that each person affected with this dread desease must do everything possible to help their body fight. I feel it is entirely appropiate to post any and all opinions on this forum, it is then the individuals choice to evaluate and use or not use the methods. Any woman undergoing any cancer treatment should always pass on to their care provider questions about any additional treatment. I had read the posting previously that Kimchi copied and did much deeper research on many of the suggestions.  I found some to be well substantiated by leading medical authorities.  Just last night I found the probable cause of my daughters cancer, her father was on a ship during the atomic testing at Bikini Atoll in 1946, I found the records of the men serving  then and many had their DNA mutated by the radiation they received. Now after all these years the government is finally telling how high the incedence of cancer were in these men. His DNA went to her and her risks of cancer was high. Since Leslee was DX, I have spent hundreds of hours reserching via the net and the library, but my main "gut" feeling is that God put the cure out there for us in nature, all we have to do is find it. I will continue to learn and search for answers and I do pass on those things that I feel will benefit her or any of you. As a Nurse, I too had to take an oath, "First do no harm." thus I read all reactions in depth.

I dont post on here often but read everyday.  My Mom had ovca3c and is 8 months post chemo.  I strongly agree with SimplyStar.  I dont believe that these things caused women to develope cancer but do feel that it is important to avoid these things once develpoing cancer.  If there are certain foods that feed remaining cancer cells that one has after or during chemo then I feel these tips that are posted are a great idea.  And the mind is our worse enemy, so I believe strongly that staying positive is the number one medicine to all.

Unless you know what causes cancer, i don't think it is your place to say what should be posted and what shouldn't.  My understanding of this forum is for people to share their experiences, knowledge and any other information that they feel will help us deal with OC.  It is my opinion that doctors don't know the cause and cure of OC and so any information one can find is worth CONSIDERING!!

Thank you Simplystar- I agree.  Much of what Kimchi writes is validated by scientific research.  The intent any of us has when posting information on this site is to HELP and SUPPORT each other from this horrible disease.  We all have our own differing opinions and can select and choose what actions we take in our search for good health.  Read "Beating Cancer with Nutrition" by Patrick Quillin- a best selling book backed up with lots of scientific research.  Quillin is a reputable nutritionist who for many years was the director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  Almost everything in the article Kimchi posted is in his book.  Rachael

Don't worry  dear!!!  We are women, and women do have the tendency to disagree, Lets try to keep in mind other peoples feelings and not be judgemental. Our one cause that unites us is the battle over cancer. Feel fortunant that we live in countries where medical services are readily available. Women in the third world countries do not have access to what we do. Women that live in mansions and grass huts are all built the same, suffer the same. When you pray, ask for a cure for cancer, for the world.  If I could have one wish granted to me, it would be that I was 26 instead of 76 and could live to see that cure happen. It will happen. I contacted Polio 1 year before the vacine was developed, now it is conquered. Small Pox and the Plague wiped out millions. There is great hope, so just hang in there . Sorry to be such a preacher, but that is the Mother in me.

Kimchi, I would like to know if you have cancer?  I would also like to know where your got all of your information?  I feel that it is a little disrespectful, no make that a LOT, when you posted how harmful chemo and radiation is to a person.  You need to take into consideration that this is a OVARIAN CANCER FORUM and many people on here already HAVE cancer.  Don't you think that they know what the risks are?  They do not have a choice. IF they want a chance to survive and be parents to their children, wives to their husbands or whatever, they HAVE to take the risks.  Please think about what your are saying before you say it.  Take peoples feelings into consideration.  There are always things we can do to make ourselves healthier and have better immune systems, but lets face facts, we DO NOT cause ourselves to have cancer.  For those who do, they need our support not others telling them that they need to watch eating surar or drinking milk, or eat 80% veggies.  Encourage them, tell them that we are here for them.  That is what this forum is all about.  Becky, you know that I am always here for you and behind you 100%.  We love you girl.  Kasie

I am strongly suggesting that we "cool" off take some deep breaths and reconsider what we say before we "type" and hit "post".  There are ALOT of sensitive people on this tremendous board and again, I agree, we are here to support, not ever, ever judge or diagnose, or give out personal advice.
Tell your story and be there as a strong supporter in any way in which these new gals are coming on here terrified just as we all were before, remember???????  We all have down days, post op, and we are not experts or medical professionals, just human beings reaching out for the comfort of a strangers words.

As someone who is going through chemo for the second time in a year, I'm quite sure I didn't give it to myself by not eating or drinking the proper things. Please go look at Dr.Goodmans response on November 16th about sugar and cancer. Her first sentence is "ah, if only it were that simple". I'm sorry if you took offence to my "opinion" but god forbid someone newly diagnosed comes on here, reads this list and thinks that they gave themselves cancer. Just beacause you believe strongly in something, doesn't make it fact. I thinks it's so important to keep your body in top form while your undergoing chemo - how you choose to do it is your choice. I think there are plenty of benefits that can come from the natural approach, but anything too extreme can't be good. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion (or so I thought).

You know I had to have a chuckle - yes sugar cells have 16 times the receptors of normal cells or some such sciency blabble. ANYHOOOOOOO I gave up smoking when I had my surgery and I am seriously going to concider giving up my sunbed
:((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

But give up my cream fu***** cakes oh no buster I think not. How about wrapping myself up in bubble wrap and staying at home all the time. If I go out I might get run over by a bus because the wide brimmed hat and wrap around shades impaired my vision LMFAO. Fish is good for ya............not it aint...........then it was..............then it wasn't

Whats all that about god putting the cures in nature??????? Hmmmmmm nuff said.

Course you gotta take care of ya bod but hell does there not come a point when you give up so much your fu**ing dead anyway!

My last post on this subject!!!!  No where in any of the posts did I read that any one deveolped cancer because what they ate. I do know that certain foods do feed the cancer cells, so AFTER being dx with cancer and doing what ever treatment is necessary it only makes sense to avoid those foods. Imature cells are not usually killed with chemo, radiation and are missed with surgery. We never thought beforehand that any thing we ate  might cause cancer, although there are warnings all the time about certain things. My daughters life is important to her and to the family.  She will put up with curtailing her diet of certain foods and activities until she has been declared cancer free. There are many identified "causes" of cancer. But when someone comes up with the "idea" that once it has invaded the body, go with the onocologists treatments and resume life as you did before. To me that is nonsense. Your body has been changed and you need to use all expertice that has been gathered by those that went before you. You do have the right to you opinions, as it is your life. Not all the research in the world is worthless, some of it makes good sense. I do believe though that each of you needs to look at the life style you led prior to the dx and alter it in ways to remove the suspecious cancer causing elements. Once was enough to teach our family this lesson. Every person newly diagnosed with any desease is frightened, after the fright comes the reserve to get help.  Doctors can give you the help you need for the immediate cause but after that it is mostly up to you to either live with it or do what you can to prevent further problems. To be pro active means to be get all the info you can and use that info to help yourself and others. A fighting spirit is good for you. Above all else do not let cancer isolate you from "the joy of living", hope, love and family and friends.

I have thought that cancer was caused by some sort of virus.  If we all have cancer cells in our body, what type are they? The cells for Ovarian Cancer are different then the cells for Lung Cancer which are different then that of Liver Cancer.

Eating a healthy balanced meal helps with certain diseases such as high blood pressure, cholestrol and sometimes even some forms of diabetes that are controlled by food, but, I can honestly say that I have never met anyone that was able to control the cancer they had by the food they ate....yes, eating healthy will help a cancer patient with gaining strength during chemo and other down times.....but to believe that it is caused by or treated by the way we eat, I hate to say, is extremely ignorant.

Wouldn't it be great if we could be cured by living on veggies and no sugar....and by the way, I am a vegetarian, have been since I was 18....all the veggies didn't change my diagnosis...maybe the soy I ate mimicked too much estrogen which caused the cysts which caused the cancer!!!!

Oh, please....ladies, none have us caused this horrible disease by what we ingested nor can we cure it that way. I just hope that anyone reading these kinds of posts is smart enough to go to the doctor and follow the advice of the medical profession.

I would like to know where this article was published?  We all know that living a healthy life style can ward off some diseases such has high blood pressure (in most cases not all)...but, I have never heard that if you live a clean healthy life you will not get cancer....what is the purpose of this post anyway?  Scare people about the horrors of chemo, depress them, let them believe thier morning coffee made them sick????

I have heard of doctors suggesting supplements, vitamins, changing eating habits to help boost the immune system which will help someone going thru chemo to maybe tolerate the chemicals better, eating healthy will also give the body engergy when you are down and not feeling well....but never has any doctor ever suggested to me that I caused my misfortunate because I put sugar in my coffee....how much is too much that is causing this horrid disease?

And we all have cancer cells in our body, what type of cancer cells do we all have?  There is not "one" type of cancer cell which we all know to be fact...so do some of us have ovarian cancer cells, and others have lung cancer cells, and others still have liver cancer cells?  Aren't cancers caused by viruses??? HPV we know for certain.....and sometimes by elements, skin cancer and the sun.

No one can control their fate nor should they take the "blame" for causing their OvCa.  There are no studies that show anything ingested or digested is a cause or preventative for OvCa.

Personally, I am a vegetarian, didn't touch animal protein for 20 (more then 1/2 my life at the time) years prior to my diagnosis....could I have eaten too much soy, soy mimics estrogen, we have determined that the tumors I develop could be estrogen fed....so does that mean in my case, I caused my OvCa because I am a vegetarian???????  Remember, can't always believe what you read and if you read anything without fact to back it up...take it with a grain of salt!!!!!

Posting "what you can do to prevent cancer" and "look how poisonous chemo and radiation are" is inappropriate to post where people already have cancer, and are receiving those very treatments!

Stay strong everyone. Unfortunately cancer is going to get sugar from you no matter what. Fruit has a lot of sugar and also carbohydrates do.

I try to eat healthy to keep my energy levels up and exercise but do reward myself with treats here and there. Mainly vegetarian with fish a few times a week. And if my RBCs are getting low when I read my blood tests, I'll have a hamburger or make a stew.

We all know chemo is the worst and radiation, surgery, etc.

The worst is a fanatic person with their diets. My term is food nazi. One lady I was speaking to said that she knew someone that brought whole grain pasta to the restaurant cause she wouldn't ingest white pasta. What a shame.

NYClady-I'm also a true believer in the virus connection.

I know Kimchee was trying to help and also there is a lot of truth to what she posted, but I know there are a lot of new persons on the site and that might freak them out.

Also there is so much more to cancer than nutritional deficiencies--malfunctioning genes, proteins, enzymes, etc.

I do believe that once you do get cancer that you have to take that extra step and treat your body, spirit and mind well.

Now we could get into relationships instead of diet......

Thank God I have a good husband and family.

Be well,
Helen

I dunno...I agree because the 'whole body' is a factor.  Yes there are genetic issues and environmental, but diet is a big thing.  Look at countries where fermented soy is consumed compared to western countires...their cancer rates are much lower.

For stress, it was recently discovered that stress can make ovarian cancer worse.

Taking DIM (I3C) can greatly decrease cancer risk...google it.
