Once it hit the sink, it was like a glob of cement. Down the disposal it slowly slunk.
Teresa
Thank you girlfriend for feeling my pain.
Teresa
Well at least you got to eat part of it! And as Sandy said, it was the thought that counts.
I'll bet that was a nice glob in your sink to clean up. Just kidding! I am sure that it will work fine next time.
Chris
I am so sorry I did not have computer access during this terrible tragedy!! I was unable to be there for you. LOL If a cake falls flat again I plan to be the first to offer a shoulder to cry on. Marie
Well, it's the thought that counts right !! I'm sure it tasted just fine.. if it wasn't for a special occasion, chances are it would have been turned out great !!! Never fails... After last Christmas when that cheesecake of mine didn't do "right". I made another just because.. Looked like it came out of a flippin magazine ... go figure !!!!.. Oddly enough my key lime with meringue came out fine and it was raining . .I thought for sure that thing would go flat as a pancake.. I think these things have minds of their own.. LOL
Take care,
Sandy
The top crusted part tasted ok. My husband and I nibbled on it until that part was gone.
Then I put it in the sink and filled the pan up with water. The cake weighed a ton because it was so gunky. Oh well...I tried. Later that day, my daughter made him a cake mix cake and it was wonderful!

Hi Teresa,.
Have to ask............ how did your cake taste?? Were you able to salvage it? One thing that would truly mess me up would be the "high altitude" thingy.. I have no idea how that works ... The humidity--- I guess we've just learned to live with.. no choice is there? Or we've just been lucky... I know it was great.. I hope you didn't toss it !!
Sandy
Teresa,
Well I would say that you had an extremely normal day. I have always liked to cook and bake, but no matter how many times you do something like that, it is bound to screw up once in awhile. So did you just throw it away or what? Sometimes it may look funky as heck but still tastes great. Jan had the right idea, choclate chip cookies don't care about the humidity at all. You could always give it another shot, maybe trying it in the later evening when the humidity is down a little. Other than that, you may have to wait until fall when the humidity is finally gone. I am sure that what ever you try next will be great.
Chris
I thought I had this in my "favorites" someplace.. sure enough it was still there. As I said, my problem more than the "falling" is that it's sometimes turned out a little "heavy". I'm doing my husbands favorite; key lime pie tomorrow and he insists on meringue which is really not traditional, but that's the way he's always liked it.. so for once in a long time, I'm hoping it DOESN"T rain..
Never too late I always say.. and you just jump right back on that horse !! It never fails that if something goes wrong,it will be on a special occasion. Just like my cheesecake a couple of Christmases ago.. the sides didn't look as good as they should, but I loved the article from an expert in cheesecakes that advised; just drizzle some fresh fruit on it, or whipped cream or anything !!! My kind of expert !!! Good luck-- Oh, if it's really fallen, just cube it up and put some ice cream and fresh strawberries on it... or chocolate sauce or whatever !!! I know it tastes wonderful !!
Good luck and happy baking,
Sandy
Good try at least...I am only good at making chocolate chip cookies for my family...actually I dont tempt cakes not that good at it...Have a great weekend..Gia :)
It COULD have been the sugar. I bought the cheapest brand. I bet it was too finely ground. The rest of the ingredients were all name brand. (Lily White, etc...) I am beginning to think I made numerous mistakes. Another friend sent an article to me about it and one of the things I did wrong on that one is not adding one egg at a time. Who would'a thunk? I am such a bad cook. I had a career, which thankfully has ended. I will learn all these tricks about cooking at an age of 59! LOL
Teresa
Here's the link.. I'm keeping this web page.. Has other good tips for pound cake. Mine sometimes comes out too heavy..

Hi,
Sorry about your cake but I gotta tell ya' , if it was the humidity, we'd never be able to bake anything down here .. We're lucky if it gets below 80 half the time. Anyway, got curious so looked it up myself:
INGREDIENTS
"Use name-brand ingredients whenever possible. For example, store brands of sugar are often more finely ground than name brands, yielding more sugar per cup than required and which can cause your cake to fall."
I'm no master chef, but I never heard of this.Learn somethin new every day I guess. .I just did a "search" and put "baking pound cakes" and this came up.. part of a larger page.. Just a thought... I'm going to look some more, because I , too, have had this problem.
Good cookin
Sandy
It's humid like this most of the time Jan. When will I be able to make the poor hubby a cake? LOL I wonder how commercial bakeries deal with this problem in the South????
Teresa
Geez Teresa, we have like 76% humidity today. You can't make pound cake on a day like today. You should have made chocolate chip cookies, they aren't finicky about humidity like pound cake. To much moisture probably separated the sour cream too. LOL Laughing with you, not at you. You are normal, everybody screws up a cake occasionally.
It must be the humidity... nothing you did... LOL...
