Stage III ovarian small cell carcinoma with a large cell variant

My niece (23 yrs. old) was diagnosed with stage III ovarian small cell carcinoma with a large cell variant hypercalcemic type.  I am looking for information about treatment, or any information that anyone may have about this disease.  Thank you.

I don't think so.  All I know is it was Stage III.  I never heard what type of cell, but they do give more detailed info on the American Cancer Society site.

I'll ask my mom if she knows when I get a chance.

Sorry, that's not what my mom had.

I went to Google, and put in:
"small cell carcinoma" ovarian

You need the quotation marks to be sure it searches for those words in that exact order.  It came up with a list of articles, they were pretty scholarly and full of medical jargon, but you could check them out.  They do mention hypercalcemia as being associated with this.

I also use this online medical dictionary:
http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/omd/
It helps me to read my test results or try to figure out some of these medical articles.

Sorry I can't be of more help.  Please know your family and your niece are in all our thoughts and prayers, and the whole Battalion here on this forum is sending her a big cyber-hug!

I am so sorry to hear that your niece has to go through this, and at such a young age!

My mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 two years ago.  After surgery and 6 months of chemo, she has had 16 chemo-free months and is doing great.  Here are some websites I found when researching for her:

National Institutes of Health Ovarian Cancer home page:
http://www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/types/ovarian

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition:
www.ovarian.org

American Cancer Society - Ovarian Cancer page:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/lrn/lrn_0.asp
(I think this site has the most detailed information)

Dana Farber Cancer Institute - Ovarian Cancer info for patients:
http://www.danafarber.org/can/cancer/View.aspx?lang=en&audience=0&doc=570

Give your niece hugs from all of us in "The Battalion" who are battling cysts or ovarian cancer.
