I am 26 years old. 2 years ago my periods started to become irregular. I also began to have excess hair on my chin and belly. I was diagnosed with atypical PCOS, even though I had no other symptoms. I was put on Ortho- tricyclen Lo and Spironolactone. About the same time I also began experiencing back and leg pain. This past April, I started to have horrible stomach pain and bloating (I look about 6 months pregnant and cannot fit into my clothes). I have problems with gas and my appetite has significantly decreased. I am also tired. I was sent to a GI who ran all these tests (including a stomach scope) and said that he could not pinpoint a problem. Put me on a sulfa drug and said maybe I have atypical Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Should I be worried about Ovarian Cancer? I know I am too young. Am I just blowing this out of proportion? If cancer is a possibility what tests should I have run? Thanks.
Hi
I would not be worried about OVCA but you do need to get another opinion quickly. OVCA is very rare in someone your age. You may have IBS because you may have endometriosis. I would ask for a pelvic/ vaginal ultrasounds and or CT scan to look at what is going on with your uterus, tubes and other organs as endo tissue can spread just about anywhere. Good Luck and let us know what happens.
