Strange Leg Pain After Hyst

Strange Leg Pain After Hyst

I am 8 days post total hyst and am having a problem with numbness and sharp pain in my left upper leg.  I had an epidurial during and after the surgery.  Could this be a remenant from that and will go away with time or could it be a symptom of a blood clot?

hello bleason -  i had a laparoscopy in june to remove a tumor and the involved right ovary and fallopian tube.  i too have experienced both numbness and pain in about a 6" diameter area of my outer upper left thigh.  i mean total numbness too - i can't feel a pin ***** there at all.  the pain is like a really bad bruise and sometimes there is even an itchy sensation - but scratching it doesn't help because i can't feel the scratch!  at my post-op appointment, my surgeon told me that i had been in stirrups for the duration of the operation and that sometimes a nerve or nerves can get compressed in that position.  she suggested a wait and see approach, saying that when this happens it usually resolves on its own over the course of a few weeks.  well, it's over a month now and it hasn't changed.  she has offered to send me ot a neurologist, but frankly i can't be bothered with that yet.  it's a bothersome and annoying sensation/anti-sensation, but i feel like i've got bigger fish to fry at the moment.  i  would definitely mention it to your surgeon and keep an eye on it.  i have also read that nerves CAN actually be severed suring surgery, so it is possible to have permanent nerve damage, but i imagine that's fairly uncommon.  as far as the blood clot possibility - my surgeon never mentioned that to me.  don't hesitate to talk to your doc or to use the answers forum for advice if you're really worried about it.  i believe the medical term for this is femoral neuropathy - loss of feeling in the leg.  do a search on google too with "femoral neuropathy hysterectomy" in the field.  some interesting things come up.  don't fret too much if you can help it.  talk to the surgeon.  hope this helps.

Hi...say, I think I have noticed several times in the past where that word was left out and replaced with asteriks...and, it, too, baffled the writer. I think it might be on automatic reject or something. It's really a harmless word describing what a pin can do to the skin, right? Geez, oh well.

Sorry to hear about the leg pain, Bleason. Interesting explanation on what it could be, though. Take care, Mary
