Surgery Tomorrow

Surgery Tomorrow

Hello All:

I hope that you all had a Happy Easter.  I have surgery tomorrow morning for a complex cyst (9cm),  I'm scheduled for laparoscopy with possible conversion to laparotomy.  I'm getting more and more nervous as each minute ticks by.  Can anyone share their experiences with me on laparoscopy?  I'm really hoping to get to come home tomorrow afternoon but if they have to do a laparotomy, i will have to stay in the hospital.  How long do you have to stay in the hospital for this?

hi, i had laparoscopy 3 weeks ago.  i had surgery at 730 am home at 1:30 in the afternoon with 3 small incisions.  they removed my tube and ovary, the tube was huge and filled with fluid and they still managed with just laparoscope as opposed to laparotomy.  i took 1 pain pill and that was it...not bad at all.  pathology1 week later all benign.  just giving you my experience, i'm sure others will contribute.  best of luck..

I've been thinking of you. Have your date in my little notebook.

I know you're nervous. My surgery was just a month or so ago. They had the same plan - try to do it by scope but may have to do the larger incision instead. Even though mine was 10 cm, she was able to take it out through the small incision. Stay hopeful. Like Rudyk, I came home early afternoon, tried the pain pills but they made me feel worse (bad headache and super dizzy). I just handled the tenderness and pulling in my tummy by moving slowly. It wasn't too bad. Mine was benign too.

Wish I could wave a magic wand and ease your nervousness. But they can give you a little something tomorrow to help. Before you know it, they'll be pestering you to wake up! Take it easy and let us know how you are when you feel up to it.

Hi,
I echo what the others have said. Tonight try and watch a really good, old movie or get really engrossed in a good book! My Laparascope was almost 2 months ago.. I had the 3 little incisions to remove the ovary and tube.. Since I'm post menopausal, that ovary was probably the size of a raisin anyway though!. Try, try not to be nervous but I know , of course that you are.. And Ireneo is so right----- I was furious they just would Not let me sleep afterwards !! and, mine too was benign (the cyst) so there is reason to be hopeful ! Good luck and let us know.. P.S. the worst of the recovery was bending over , so try not to drop anything unless you have one of those "grabby" things.. Take care, I'll be thinking of you .., Sandy

Hi, I'm having the same thing with the exact plan for my surgery as well on April 1st.  I am 36, one child and married.  GYNO found 7cm cyst during my annual routine pap visit so I was in shock.  Did ultrasound, pelvic exam and CA125 test (test came back normal with no cancer).  So, hopefully that outcome stays the same when they remove the cyst and it is benign.  I too, was wondering what to expect, so I'm glad to find your question.  I'll be praying for you and keep us posted.

I have had 4 laparoscopies and not any problems with any of them.  Just remeber to not over do anything for several weeks and drink alot of water to help with going to the bathroom after.  It is scarey to think of surgery but it is so nice when it is over.  Try to relax and REST.  Good luck and good health..........

I had both laparoscopy many years ago and laparotomy last May. The pain was not too bad and I was so anxious before...Just try and relax and think positive. Good Luck. Gia :)
