Surgery or Cyberknife?

by Amy51, Jun 25, 2009 03:11PM
I have an ovarian cancer recurrence on the vaginal cuff, a small tumor. I am very healthy otherwise, 53, exercise a lot, and have had three previous abdominal surgeries. What are the pros and cons of surgery to remove the tumor vs. cyberknife? Does cyberknife actually remove it or just shrink it?

Hi There
I am not familiar with cyberknife and ovarian cancer. I did a pubmed search and there are no scientific papers on the topic.  My understanding is that cyberknife technology is used to approach deep tumors surrounded by normal tissue such as brain tumors.

The vagina is an easily accessible region. Therefore options include surgical resection, radiation,or chemotherapy or a combination.

I would suggest that you get a second opinion if someone is offering you cyberknife technology.  The ultimate decision depends on physical exam and x ray findings.
