Hi there!
I had a laparotomy 6 weeks ago and still have a "swelly" belly.  Generally I wake up with a "flatish" stomach, but after being up a couple of hours, I notice the swelling.  I was a bit worried at first that this is how it's going to be forever, but all your words are an encouragment.  It's good to know that I'm not alone in this.  I am 36 years old and don't have kids.

Hey, I also had a 20cm cyst and I am pretty small (110 lbs) so I looked pregnant.  when they took the tumor/cyst out, and I woke up from surgery, I immediately saw a difference.  But I did have a swelly belly for about 2 weeks after surgery (I had abdominal surgery, not laporotomy) because it was pretty invasive, they palpated all of my innards and cut into me and such.  The belly will go down though.

You'll have swelling afterwards since they did go inside... they call it swelly belly. But that swelly belly goes away as your body heals. If the swelling right now is from the cyst, then once the cyst is removed, that swelling will go away. You'll just have the normal, healing-type, swelling to deal with.
Hang in there, and keep us posted!
