Swelling After Laprotomy

Hi

There is still swelling on my stomach after lapromotmy surgery last week to remove ovarian cyst. I thought after surgery I would have a flat stomach . Is it  wind trapped in my tummy ?Can anyone tell me if I will have a flat stomach after few weeks.Also how to remove this wind from my tummy?Thank you .

Hi and welcome.  It is trapped gas that they use to expand your belly so that they can see what they are doing.  We call this swelly belly!  It will go away eventually.  Try drinking hot tea and do not lie completely flat.  Rest in a recliner if you can.  Walk but not to much, just enough to get the body moving a bit...this can help with the gas.  Also, if you need to, get some gas-x...this helps to get rid of the gas also.

Also try peppermint tea this helps get the gas out of your system
