Swollen ovary

I have just been for a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound due to ongoing problems with anemia.  I have noticed that four years ago when I had an ultrasound my right ovary was 4.8ml volume.  Now it is 10.48 ml.  I am really worried about this. The report does not show any other abnormalities.  I have had persistent fatigue, and for the last month at night before I go to bed I have had a frequent urge to urinate...I go, stand up and need to go again (with little result)three or four times.  I have tried to look up so information on the internet, but all I seem to find is ovarian cancer sites.  I am getting a bit frightened.  I would really appreciate any comments that anyone has.

I don't feel that I have a yeast infection, although I have had problems with that several years ago when I lived in the tropics.  It seems bizarre that before bed is the only time that I have a problem re the urge to urinate.  Maybe its in my head.

I see the gp on Wednesday re the ultrasound, however what you said makes sense and has put me a bit more at ease. Do you know the accuracy rate if an ultrasound picks up no ovarian mass?

Don't feel ignorant. It's only when we are thrust into all this with no real information that we then research, ask questions, and find answers.

I can remember in one scan my left ovarian volume was 24 and in the next month's 10. I was ovulating on the 1st scan from my left ovary, then from my right on the second. Then it was the right ovary's turn to increase in volume.

Thanks Linda, I feel so ignorant about my own body. I have just been feeling so terrible lately, and I guess I keep looking at the worse case scenario.  I will talk to my GP about it sometime this week.  I appreciate your time, I see that everyone here has much more to deal with, and I send you all the best of wishes.

The volume in your ovary will change, especially if that ovary is the one that's doing the ovulating that month. It's when the volume continues to increase and never goes back to normal that's a problem. Hope that helps!

Silly question but could you have a yeast infection? I don't get the discharge but I do get some irritation, mild enough to ignore, which of course I do because I'm smart :)What I do get is bladder pressure much like you describe which is when I finally go 'ohhhh' get some cream, and then voila, my symptoms clear.

I didn't even know ovaries had volume that was measured, so . . .so much for what I know.  I've only had experience with cysts and they measure those in centimeters.  I learned something new here.

Oh...sorry I forgot to mention that I am 40, with three kids, very heavy periods, and frightened...
