Tamoxofin for ovarian cancer

The onco proposed to take 20 mg tamoxofin every day.The 3c ovarian cancer came back twice;2 surgeries,2 rounds of 6 chemo rounds.First diagnosis in 2007.Wondering if Tamox is worth the taking.Any women with 3C who used this drug.CA-125 is going up and is now 55 units;jumped from 9 units  in March.

Tamoxifen held my cancer quiet for almost 18 months.  No side effects other than maybe some extra hot flashes.  Definitely take it 10mg twice a day .. less aches.

After 2 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemo, my CA 125 climbed gradually to 161. Started on Tamoxifen, it rocketed up to 743. Now, 6 weeks later it's 784. Obviously not working, but wonder why the big jump, then the gradual again. I am asymptomatic for now, so don't intend to do more chemo right away. Will see what onco says tomorrow.

I knew a woman that was stage 4, and the tomaxfin kept her well for 9 years.  She did still have "cancer" but it remained stable for 9 years.

She did not complain of any spefic side effects.

Thanks Kathy,
Tamox (10 mg twice a day) has been started yesterday. The 2nd Onco whom we consulted also said that this can be started since there will be "no side effects"(?).He also advised to do a CT and repeat the CA-125 after 3 months, beacuse the  increasing CA -125 reading usually makes the patient very nervous. Also, there is no evidence that indicates that giving chemo early or late is going to improve chances.
For now we will go with the flow.

I had stage IC endometrial ovarian cancer.  I took Aromasin for a year, beginning about three months after chemo was over.  It seems radical at first glance, but I have also had uterine and breast cancer.  All estrogen dependent. So, it was recommended for me.

It made me hurt so badly that I had to stop after a year. I'm not sorry I went on it, though.  Anything I could do to keep my hormone-driven cancers away was worth the try.

I'm three years out since ovca and uterine cancer, four years out since breast cancer, without any signs of anything returning.  If your cancer was estrogen fueled, you might consider taking it. I'll never know if it did any good, but I felt like I had to do everything I could to help myself stay healthy.

Good luck in your decision making.

I was on it for three months and it had little effect for me. It also made my joints so sore I could hardly move.  Had it been working I would have taken more pain killers and carried on though.

However the chances of it being effective are as good as many other treatments so worth  a try IMO

Tamoxofen did not work for me.  I'm 3C and was on it for 8 weeks.  When my CA125 levels increased considerably, we switched to chemo.  However, other women on this site have had good results with Tamox and personally, it would be worth trying to see if it works for you.  Everyone is different and should it work for you, its definitely worth it especially if it means to keep from going back on chemo, even if its for a short period of time or you may be lucky to have it work for a long period of time.

Anything is worth a try if it means to stay off of chemo.   This is only my opinion and as I said, it didn't work for me, but at least, I gave it a try.

My best to you.  Angie
