Taxol/Hospitalization

by fillymom, Feb 15, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, I posted on 2/6 and had a couple answers but things have changed and am looking for more info.  Mom is 76, Stage 3C,fallopain tube cancer(ovarian), CA-125 of 186, sub-optimal debulking 8-30-06, 6 rounds of taxol/carboplatin, tolerated it pretty well.  She had a CT 0n 2-2-06. Results = CA-125 of 12, CA shrunk and not spread but a lot still there. In our minds she isn't in remission, just on hold.  Are we on target? She started Taxol only, 80mg, once a week for 12 weeks on 2-6-06.  She finished her second round Tuesday, 2-13.  Had more nausea both these times than she did the first 6 rounds of the combo chemo. She developed a bad cough this week. They gave her a shot of Arenesp (had shots the last 2 times of the combo treatment) because of low blood counts, I guess, and checked her lungs.  Today she was coughing so bad, they told her to come back so they could check on her again.  Also had mild temp of 99.6.  They hospitalized her late this PM.  We are hoping its to make sure she isn't or won't develop a major infection and it'll only be a day or two that she is in.  But...  We don't know what to think.  The MD hasn't seen her yet.  Her regular onc is at a major med center.  She is getting this weekly onc treatment close to home and in the local hospital.  Her regular MD is supposed to follow her.  I don't know what I'm really asking all you.  I/we are scared.  Any thoughts?

I really don't know much about what could be causing her problems right now.  I think that someone with sub-optimal debulking and a CA125 of 12 is amazing.  I hope that the cough and what she is feeling is just part of this horrible bug that is going around.

My mother will be 76 this year.  It is so hard as they get older.  We worry so much, the tables turn.

Sending lots of positive thoughts
