Taxol and metastasis

I have Stage III3C ovarian cancer due to inoperable periaortic lymph nodes (had complete hysterectomy and omentum removed, no disease left but lymph nodes).  I have had my third Taxol/carboplatinum treatment and my CA125 has shown a positive response.  Down from 871 to 46 after only 2 treatments.  I have recently read however that Taxol in studies has shown the characteristic of cancer metatasis in spite of effectiveness at cancer cell death.  This is very frightening to me.  Is this true?  If so, why is it the "gold standard" for ovarian cancer?  Should I be concerned?

First, I think your numbers are very good and you should be encouraged as should your oncologist.  I'm not sure what you mean by "has shown the characteristics of cancer metastasis."  Can you explain a little further or cite where you read this?  I hope you've expressed your concerns to your onc; what does he or she say? The combination of the two drugs, carbo and taxol is considered the gold standard for first-line treatment of the disease and has given many women long remissions or even a cure.  Everybody is so different, though, that it does not work for everyone, but apparently it works better than anything else right now.  They are testing adding a third drug to this combo.  I have a friend in a taxol maintenance trial right now who after nine months is doing really well. The trial is designed to prolong the length of remission after first-line carbo/taxol.  I'm sorry you have "qualified" to join our community, but you will find a lot of knowledge, experience and support here to help you through.  Paula
