I don't know how many times I thought of you over the weekend and said a prayer your CT Scan would come out as well as your low CA 125. What was it? Conners

Teresa, I am also glad that I saw this good news. You deserve it!
My onc is like yours when it comes to my hernia. He figures if it isn't causing me any problems, then don't mess with it. A clear scan and a low CA, sounds like a reason to celebrate. Way to go girlfriend!

HI Teresa,
I am so glad that I saw this good news! I read the title of the post and I was so worried. You take this time and take care of yourself, do fun things, don't worry about the chores until you absolutely have to!! Hugs, Colleen

Thank you for the information.  I guess if it gets intolerable, I will have to go under the knife. ICK!

First of all, congratulations on your CA and NED .. enjoy the break and do fun things .. don't waste this time off with dusting and cleaning!!

I had a hernia that protruded every now and then just to the left of my navel.  My gyn/onc referred me to a surgeon and he put about a 7" mesh square behind my whole scar .. laparascopically (sp).  He said it was inserted like a cigar and then they made 4 small cuts and unrolled it inside me and stitched it to the abdominal wall.  He said the back of my scar looked like swiss cheese from the IP chemo going directly into the belly.  I got a copy of my operative report and it showed that my intestines had adhered to my abdominal wall and had to be separated (cut) away from the abdominal wall to complete the hernia repair.  I was sent home the next AM and have to say I never experienced pain like that in my life.  With my C-sections and OVCA surgeries, I was in the hospital for one week with great drugs.  Coming home in less than 24 hrs., I was in major pain.  Oxycotin made me groggy, but I found Tylenol XS actually gave me more relief.  It lasted for several days and I wore a wide belly band (about 12 inches wide with velcro) for a couple of weeks so I could move easier with straining the repair.  I'm telling you this in case you have your hernia repair.  Be prepared.  It's fine now .. of course, that was a year ago.

Stay well,
Judy

I too wish my ONC would treat other issues that sometimes arise.  It's such a hassle to run to other doctors for minor problems unrelated to cancer. The only thing I can figure why the difference in your doctor and mine is the fact that my doctor is in charge of the Department. Plus, he only has a few patients now. I guess his administrative duties got too heavy on his schedule. He told me my last visit that he chose just a few patients to stick with and gave the others up to other ONC in the practice. He patted my head and told me I was "special" and that is why I got chosen. I got a good laugh out of it. He CAN be funny.

Teresa,

I'm a little surprised that you doc won't treat you for everything.  Mine, as you know, is in the same practice, and he specifically told me that a lot of his patients use him as their primary care physician.  I guess that's just him.

I'm electing to keep my primary care since she is the one that honed in on ovarian cancer in record time (2 hrs), and also because I'm currently on blood pressure medicine.  Anyway, my gyn/onc said they could work together with no problem -- just alert him when I was experiencing any non-cancer events as well.

I'm so happy that your CT scan was clear, and that your CA-125 was so low.  I know it is not a good marker for you, but it's still nice that it is low.

Talk to you soon.

My ONC didn't acknowledge my new hernia with any advice. He's that way. He wants me to go to my Internist for such problems. I do wish he treated the whole person.  My husband's ONC treats the whole person during the oncology process.

My hernia has been bothering me a little thus far.

Hi Teresa,
That's such good news, NED and a low CA reading, you must be so relieved.

Regarding the hernia, I've developed 2 hernias during my chemo. My oncologist said that unless they present a problem, he won't clear me for surgery to repair them. They're mentioned on every CT scan and haven't changed in size.

His feeling is that if they're not causing trouble, leave them alone because we can't stop chemo for surgery, and recovery time.
What did your oncologist say?

Conners, I'm sending you a private message.

Take care,
Jane

Well....it showed no suspicious areas of potential cancerous activity.  I felt much relief when my ONC gave me the report and explained it.  However, I do have a new hernia.  I am assuming it was caused by the damage that some of the chemos cause to the digestive system. Furthermore, on my last CT Scan, it showed a small amount of ascites. That was totally gone.

Thank you for inquiring. I thought that I had mentioned it somewhere on MedHelp for others to see.  My CA125 was 11. Although, I don't place too much credence on that test. He wants to see me in three months.
