The chemo should do the trick?

My mom is Stage 3C and they did a complete hysterectomy and removed the omentum.  She has some cells or specs or spots remaining in her abdomen.  The surgeon said he got 98% out.

She went for a followup to the surgeon yesterday and he said she is healing nicely.  He also said he cant guarantee anything but that "the chemo should do the trick"...referring to the specs that are remaining.

He seems optimistic.

I mean, my mom is healing nicely, so far she is tolerating the chemo as well as can be expected, they got 98% out with just "specs" remaining.  Also, I read on here about other women with fluid buildup and having to be drained, etc.  My mom has not had this problem.

You think we can be cautiously optimistic, even though the stats arent so great?  I mean, the doc said the chemo is very effective and sould do the trick.  To my knowledge there are no more tumors or nodules left in her body...just these "specs".

I want my mom to be a success story.

Anyone?

Welcome to the site.  You will find plenty of support and answers here.  There are many women who have been or are where you mom is at.  I am sure someone will be along shortly.  All I can offer is an ear to listen and my prayers.  Godspeed

Hi All,

New to this site.  My mother has a rare ovarian cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes.  The doctor also said he got "all of it he could"  Was a real large tumor, she also had to have a colostomy (She hates it).  She recently had her 2nd round of chemo, taxol and Cisplatin.  This time was much better she took Emend and Kytril and didn't throw up once!  We were so thrilled.  The 1st time she couldn't even keep water down for 6 days!  She is scheduled for 4 treatments, high dosages and then reassessment.  Has anyone ever NOT needed more chemo after 4 heavy doses?  We are praying for good news.  My mother is 67 and always healthy, just retired a year ago and BOOM!  It is heartbreaking.  She is a beautiful woman and the hair loss is devastating.  But she is hanging strong and wants to live a long time.  I hate looking at the odds.  We are just trying to enjoy everyday we can around the chemos, fatigue, and weakness.  She is trying to gain weight, any hints?  How are you mothers?  Just thought our cases were similar and never hurts to have a friend.  Take care and thanks for any insight guidance anyone might be able to share with me

I think you should forget about the stats and look at what is staring you in the face.  Your mother is doing great - better than you had expected, right?  So let go of the stats and enjoy how great she is looking and feeling.  Take her for walks, to lunch, movies, etc.  She will love it and so will you.  As I recall your mother is around 75, is that right?  About the same age as my mom.  I am reminded each time I am with her that she is getting older and will not always be here for me (even though she is here today as I prepare to head into surgery~)  So don't waste another precious minute worrying about what you can't control and enjoy what is!  Good luck.
