The use of ginger

I hate to keep bringing this up to you ladies  but I feel so strong about the tests that have been run with Ginger.  It can't hurt you and it just might be the answer for those of you that need those beastly cells killed. There are so many of you posting here, that are pro-active, so it seems if Ginger can be used to kill OVC cells, that what better use of this forum than to spread the word about a useful tool. I am not an expert by any way about OVC, just doing all the learning I can to help my daughter. If you do use it, keep good records,  and lets find out how it works.  Daughter is doing daily charting. I have always been a firm believer that God put every thing we need to stay and get healthy in his Nature.

Yes I agree but the problem is who wil fund the research? Pharmaceutical companies?  In Germany, they are doing lots of research on the use of alternatives especially natural herbs..Not sure who is funding them, but they have lots of documented statics.

It is sad that the study on ginger has not been developed. I wonder why!? If I had a large fortune, I know I would invest in cancer research. So many people are waiting for a glimpse of hope. The US are one of the countries where things go very fast, that is why I wonder, it is already 2 years since the publication of that article and no progress has been made!?! they are not even at the stage of studying the effect on animals, as I understand.

Ladies...just got the reply back from Univ of Michigan regarding their Ginger study:

"In your e-mail you asked about the current status of the ginger research for ovarian cancer.  There is currently nothing additional to report regarding this initial press release.  There are no current studies open,  and no additional  details about the work done in our lab."

Tell me that isn't disappointing?

I think we are all talking about taking about different uses for ginger in cancer :)  taking ginger does help for nausea, but i think this thread was started about the anti-cancer effects of it.  While the researchers think there might be (in the future) a way to deliver this orally, the in vitro tests were conducted by applying ginger directly to ovarian cancer cells.  That's why the researchers were wary of anyone thinking it can be taken orally to have an impact on cancer (they just don't know yet).  Yet SimplyStar is mentioning (yes I remember your posts about this from a while ago hehe) an abdominal wash with ginger since it was shown in vitro to kill the cells completely.  Her idea is part of what is sometimes (not often) done where a chemo abdominal wash is performed to try and kill remaining cells during debulking.  So if a ginger wash, as she talks about, were to be used...it's possible the VERY HARSH use of chemo in an abdominal wash could be replaced by a relatively non-toxic to humans, but deadly to ovarian cancer cells, ginger wash.  This is important because no amount of debulking can rid you of the ovca cells lingering around.  Ok with that I'm done :)

I told the news about ginger to my mum I am afraid that she did not quite....believe it. Ginger is part of Chinese food. And come to think of it, there is at least one meal everyday where ginger is used. My mum told me that if it is so good, she would not have cancer in the first place since she is eating ginger everyday.

Anyway, I know that ginger tea is good if you have an upset stomach.

When my mother is feeling really bad from the chemo... I make ginger tea.  Its hot water ... and slices of ginger that soak and steep for about 5 minutes.  Add a drop or two of organic honey and voila!  It helps calm her stomach and it's good for her.

read the article it sounds promising. I'm already on the curcumin as a cancer preventative helper if you will. My homeopathy put me on it as part of my detox program. will see how it works out lol....

as for the ginger, I wont be able to take it because of my husband. he's highly allergic to sulfer and ginger derives from a sulfer plant, we found this out the hard way.
at any rate, good luck with it I hope it is successful.

My mom always promoted the health benefits of ginger.  If you were sick around my house you got ginger grated into some bit of food, even if it didn't go to well.  LOL  My mother really believed it was a magic root and we were never without some at the house.
Thanks Alan for the info.  I just wish it didn't taste so bad by itself.  It's great in chinese food, but you can't eat that every night.  Anyone know any tricks to make it taste better.  It makes me so nauseous I can't get it down anymore

Here is the press release for those of you who are new to the ginger deal:

http://www.med.umich.edu/opm/newspage/2006/ginger.htm

very very very preliminary research on this...it was all done in vitro with NO in vivo tests.
What's promising is it's use to reduce inflammation (which they discuss) as inflammation helps cancer grow.

I like the idea, though, and I'm curious to find out more about it.  I'm going to do some research in the next month and throw together an article about it and how it may be used in conjunction with chemo.

I have been using ginger capsules since I stopped my chemo and my CA went down from 7.6 to 2.6  but I do not know if it really had anything to do with it.  My Dr. said it cannot hurt.  We should be a trail, call it "ginger tracking"

I just wanted to thank all those who posted about the ginger. I hadn't heard about it before I saw it on this forum. I bought some organic raspberry ginger tea a couple of days ago and have been drinking a least one cup a day along with the green tea I was already drinking. I'm not a huge fan of the taste of ginger, but the tea isn't that bad! I figure I need all the help I can get! Thanks again!:)

There are many ways to put Ginger to use ,  candy, tea, Capsules. Health  stores have it. Ginger cookies are so good. One of the other effects  is that it sure quiets the tummy down. Just be sure you ask your oc/gyn about it and if you do decide to try it , tell them so that they will help you keep track of any results too. My daughter is drinking about 3-4 cups of tea a day,  green, ginger, raspberry, and uses celestial "sleepytime"  at night.

After it was posted about the ginger I went out and bought ginger root tea.  It doesnt taste too good but if it helps sway surviving my way its a small thing to do.

Also dont forget green tea.  Article in the latest Body and Soul says says drinking one cup of tea---especially green tea-- can reduce your cancer risk..especially the recurrence of breast and ovarian cancer. (International Journal of Cancer, 2004, vol.112, no. 3; Japanese journal of cancer research, 1998, vol.89, no 3.)
