Thinking of postponing surgery - views?

Not ready for my surgery next week on Tues 25th. Thinking of postponing it. Realise it is a risk. The mass in in the pouch of douglas. Could they not remove this through a laparoscopy as opposed to a laparotomy. Am going to speak to my Macmillan counsellor and macmillan nurse tomorrow. Don't know if I am being foolish but I don't want to become an invalid for the next 9 months. Feeling anxious.

I agree with the Cysters...when I was lying on the table, feeling like Grade A BEEF, I just wanted to roll off and run!  (course I would have exposed me bottom, not a pretty sight).  As I was going under I was thinking  "Nnooooooooo!"  However, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  Not to be indelicate, but wouldn't they feel safer doing the open incision so they don't spread anything dangerous around in your body? Why would you become an invalid for the next 9 months?  Is that what they told you?  Is it a bit of a trade-off.... Really, tellme, I feel scared for you if you wait.... Didn't you already kind of stall it a bit?  I think about you so much....

thankyou very much for your views.
What if I pushed for a laporoscopy as opposed to a laparotomy? Don't want my body messed around with. Need to feel in control. Would they not be able to remove the mass with a laporoscopy.

Isn't that funny.  I said the same thing(about not wanting to have surgery yet-I wanted to cancel) but it was in a weak moment of a panic attack.  I am seeing the plastic surgeon tomorrow and have pre-op appt next week.  Coming down to the crunch is messing with my mind.  I'm not worried about the findings but I am about my recovery.  Iwas 15 years younger when I had my last surgery.  Feel like a life time ago.  Hang in there and think about how good you will feel when it is all behind you.  Good luck

laproscopy depends on the size of the mass.  Also, I am not sure if the fact that it is in the pouch of Douglas might preclude laproscopy.  I imagine when you speak to the people that you are planning to, they can tell you for sure.

It is normal to get those feelings and want to put things off.  Is it really for the best?  Weigh the options of surgery and of postponing.  If you postpone, you still will be having surgery at some point and you will still be laid up for a while.  If it is a matter of timing, well in my opinion no time is good for surgery, but sometimes we just have to do what we have to do.  What will it benefit you if you put off the surgery for a while?  These are questions you need to answer.  We are here for you no matter what you decide to do.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed
